5 Days Post surgery

Recommended Posts

Ok I am freaking starving now!

I couldn't resist and ate some mash potatoes with lots of gravy (thats pretty liquidy!), about 1/2 cups worth and I feel full.

Did I screw up?

Was it to early?

Last thing I want to do it screw up my band or something.

Advise please

Ok so # 1 relax. Everyone is different , and although surgeons usually give you a schedule to follow post op, some people do things a little differently. I do not think it will hurt you to try and eat some mushies if you feel like you can handle it. However I would be careful on the things you are choosing. Gravy is high in fat and very heavy which is probably not a good choice. I started mushies about a week out, but I ate things like cottage cheese, scrambled eggs, yogurt. I would try things like that, stay away from high calorie things such as gravy, they will not help you calorie wise. Good luck to you , keep us posted!

You should really follow what your surgeon tells you to do. It prolly isnt the worse thing you could have done. But mash potatoes are fattening!!

I was also banded 5/24! I am soooo hungry, and have really been hurting for some soft solid foods. I hope to eat soon. When did everyone start walking or exercising? I still feel like tons of bricks are sitting on top of my chest with some pain here n there.

I had no pain at all. My did experience some minor discomfort at the surgical sites when I switch positions while sleeping. As well as very minor gas. I think I really got off easy. I started walking 1 mile a day today.

I was banded May 17. I did liquids the first 4 days and then full liquids for about 4 days and now I am eating solids. I'm being extremely sensible in what solids I choose. I ate mashed potatoes one eve. Could only eat 1/2 cup, ate it very slow and did fine. I think the post op diet depends a lot on how quickly you heal, how you are able to keep foods down, how tiny your bites are and how long you chew. I have had NO problems at all. I am just trying things real slow. There is no way I could have done a liquid (clear) diet for 2 weeks.........so, I don't think the mashed potatoes should hurt one bit. Just be careful of gravy, butter...e.t.c. as said before, it can get fattening. Good luck!!!

Im not far behind you, banded may 25th. I am so hungry. I just had two spoonfuls of natural apple sauce (no sugar added). I think if I was going to try mashed potatoes I would add low fat sour cream and loosen them up as much as poss. Congrats on your band. Just take it slow! As we have been told it is more important to heal right now.

Hi all, I've been banded May 24th too..... I am not physically hungry but I am emotionally hungry as they call it .... One has to learn the difference between these two forms of hunger ...... Eating mashed potatoes 5 days post op isn't that big of a deal but always listen to what ur doctor tells you....my dietician really stressed on the importance of being dedicated in the first two weeks to liquids as that is important for healing.....just be carefull and take good care of u and u're bands :) How are you all doing weight loss wise?

Hi everyone! I was just banded May 28. Although my doctor initially recommended I stay on the liquid diet for two weeks, he said it's ok to move on to other things slowly, as long as my body is handling it. So, I moved on to yogurt and cottage cheese after one week of liquids. I am not really hungry, but I do miss the variety in my diet. I am so-o-o sick of eating yogurt every day, I probably will never be able to look at it again once I move on to solid foods.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
