2 days postop; how much liquid at a time?

Recommended Posts

I had surgery on 5/24 and I am trying diligently to heal and follow the recommended Protein requirements. I usually make an 8 oz Protein Drink twice a day. I am taking up to an hour to drink this. Is this okay? I am also trying to get Water through broths, popsicles, Jello, etc...I just dont want to damage my new pouch or stretch it out! Does it sound like I am doing this correctly!

I had the same issue. Two days after surgery, it took me what seemed like forever to get down my shakes and liquids. Just remember that you body is still swollen from the procedure. It takes a few days.

I was the same way. .. but my doc wasn't concerned about Protein during the first week. Just fluids to stay hydrated. Just keep sipping!

Hi,

I'm six days post-op and in the binder that my surgeon's office gave me, it says that I should be drinking 4 oz-5oz of Fluid every 30 minutes. It also says that if I am going to attempt to drink 6 oz or more, that it should be done over the span of an hour. So I think you're fine.

That was the one thing that worried the stink out of me...getting dehydrated. I am a huge Water drinker and am a nurse. Your body will let you know when to stop. It sounds like you are doing great!

Thanks everyone! I will use all of the suggestions! I appreciate the encouragement and advice. I too am a nurse and the dehydration is a big concern, and I also know how Protein is important in tissue healing as well. I am trying to cover both! Good luck everyone!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
