How can I break a plateau?

Recommended Posts

I am two weeks post op, still on clears and Protein, taking in about 400 calories a day... haven't done anything different, but in the past 5 days, my weight has stayed exactly the same... not on my period, so I know it's not that.... I know that plateus can happen, but anything I can do to tell my body that I am not in starvation mode and that it's okay to let go of the lbs???? Any ideas?

Hi Nurse Katie:

First off congratulations on your new life!

Second: Please concentrate on healing  and do not worry about what your eating because right now it has no bearing on your healing. You will loose and gain :smile2: during that time but don't worry! My doctors told me I could gain 2 to 5 lbs during this time, no matter what you will be making healthy choices so you should be fine. I did not gain but I did not loose and all I did was choosing healthy.

Once 6 weeks have passed and you have had your first fill, then concentrate on calories and plateaus.

Third: Once you do hit a plateau it can be one of two things, a) you are doing the same exercise and your body knows it, so change up exercise routine weekly or :wink5: you have too little calories, if that is the case increase your calories by 100 and give it two days the scale will tell you!

Take care and good luck!

Great comments thus far. The main one to add from here is that I would like you to eat the absolute minimum 800 calories, but my preference is 1000 to 1200. You need to eat to lose weight. Starving is not the way. I agree wound healing is the focus during this phase. Weight loss should also be monitored via your measurements and not only the scales, find a a shirt and a pair of pants that are too tight and wear them each week and enjoy the feeling of them getting too big, SLOWLY.

Take care

Be careful with sugarfree stuff if it is splenda or truvia they are a derivative of sugar and it will break down like a carbs do. Just concentrate on low carb, high Protein good luck!
