eating sooner than allowed

Recommended Posts

I was on full liquids for a week and could transition to soft/mushy for 2 weeks. I started with soft mushy but have pretty much eaten anything but just chew till mush. I have tolerated everything so far. Ready for a fill I am hungry after eating the 4oz alotted meals.

Im at that point. Ive been on mushies for a week now and I have one more to go. Im at the point where if its soft enough for me to chew into mush, im eating it. It keeps me full, Im just looking for more options.

I have been on liquids since my banding on 5/20 - Water, Jello, broth, and up to 2 Optifast per day. Prior to surgery on 4/30 I started with 2 Optifast and one meal. I have not eaten solid food since dinner on Mother's day. I can honestly say I am not hungry and drink only 1-2 meals per day and drink lots of Water. I am down 35 lbs. There are many times I want to cheat but I have not. I still cook for my husband and children but walk out of the room when they are eating. What it has allowed me to do is focus on why and when I was eating before the band. I was a picker - as I cooked dinner I was always popping something in my mouth, making my kids lunch I'd take a slice or two or three of some cold cuts or lick the Peanut Butter off the knife when I was done. I am really only know fully conscious of what I was doing before b/c I am so careful not to put it in my mouth. I am also learning to listen to my body about what the difference between hunger and food lust are.

Mostly I am staying on track b/c its what my surgeon recommends and I am scared of screwing anything up.

I has hungry by day 5 and I started the mushies that evening. I started each stage a week or two early. I have progressed okay. I am averaging about 1.5lbs a week in weight loss. As long as you are careful to chew well and eat good foods, you should be fine. Getting your Protein and exercise is the key.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
