Not Loosing and FRUSTERATED!!!

Okay, I was banded on March 12, 2010. I have lost 25 lbs since surgery...which is mediocre. I went for my second fill last Wednesday and I got on the scales this morning and I am GAINING weight!!! I am sooo frusterated at this point I have been gaining and loosing the same 3lbs for the past month and a half and I am sick of it!!! I walk/jog 4 days a week, I eat nothing but Protein Protein protein (60 - 80 grams per day), I don't drink with my meals, I'm not doing slider foods or sugary drinks. I stay away from caffeine and carbonation. I am doing things by the book getting 1100-1300 calories per day in ( I cannot loose eating less than 1100)...and still NOTHING!!! :biggrin:

Maybe I need to vent or maybe this was not a good idea for me to do this. I am starting to feel pretty hopeless about loosing because I am not...and have not for almost 2 months now.

My restriction is there...it's not great but I don't feel as though I am over eating...I just don't know what to do at this point, those old feelings of "I'll never be thin." are creeping back up and I don't like it...I'm a little scared and a little worried. :unsure:

I think sometimes you just hit a wall and stop losing. Keep doing what you're doing, it will come off. Mine has been slow and I had a point for a month I didn't lose anything. I have had 3 fills now and getting restriction. But, I still am not losing at the rate I want (2 lbs / wk). But, I am still losing so I'm trying to stay positive. Just remember... we are not gaining!!! Hang in there!

I know how you feel. I haven't been banded as long as you but I was forced to take a good hard look at what I was thinking was "not overeating" this past weekend. It may not be your issue but I know that when my husband pointed out to me that I am eating the same amounts of food as I was before I was banded (of course I didn't believe him at first), I had to take a good hard look at what I was doing. We have paid a lot of money to get this "tool" to help us lose weight. Like many bandsters out there I think in the initial stages, we think the band will do all the work for us. Doesn't work that way unfortunately. It sounds like you are doing all the right things. As long as you are honest with yourself it should kick in. Maybe you should contact your nutritionist/doctor at the clinic you had the operation at? Are you drinking enough Water? Totally understand your frustration but don't just sit and think about it, you paid big bucks for this and deserve some answers/help from the doctor who provided the service. Try to stay positive but look for answers - you owe it to yourself! Just think....if you didn't do this, you would be 25 lbs. heavier still!

I can't eat near as much as I used to...I don't think that is the problem I am having, but I am still able to eat more than a cup at one sitting to get full.

Thanks for the responses, it's hard to stay positive about this when I DID spend so much money on this "tool" and it's just not working as well as I thought it would.

I don't expect a magic bullet by any means...I know this is going to be hard work. My problem is not at the amount I loose per week...I just want to be loosing and NOT at a stand-still.

Hi there - I think you are losing focus here....you have lost 25lbs since March....so, that is about 10 lbs a month, and when have you lost 10lbs a month on any other weight loss program?

This is life long commitment - I am sure it look more than 2 1/2 months to put your weight on, and it is going to take some time to get the weight off as well.

Be proud of your weight loss! 25 lbs is AMAZING! Congratulations. Most people do no do so well in the first months, because of the low amount of fluids in the band, and really start to see the pounds falling off after a few fills.

Hang in there - give this time to work, and give yourself time to heal, and get used to this new way of life. You are doing really well!

I totally feel your frustration!!!! I was banded 2 days prior than you and I am stuck at a 16lb weight loss!! I keep gaining and losing the same 4lbs!!! I also work out like crazy doing both 30 mins of cardio and maybe 45min to an hour on weight lifting. Im tracking my calorie intake and I am not eating all the "wrong" foods and its driving me nuts!! I am also starting to believe that this "tool" is not gonna work for me!! I have had 3 fills and at a good restriction but still nothing is happening. My question is....What am I doing wrong:confused:??

I think 25 lbs. is awesome. Don't beat yourself up when you should be celebrating! I was banded February 15th and have now lost 34 lbs. There have been times since being banded that I don't lose and it gets frustrating but I now know that if I keep on doing the right things, the scale will start to move again. These first few months most doctors want us to heal and adjust to this new lifestyle and do not expect huge amounts of weight loss from us. At this point in the game it's a bonus. Hang in there and know that you are not alone. You are doing great!

My body stalls and regroups after every 10 pounds or so. It's frustrating, but if I just keep doing what I do, the scale starts moving again.

It's just not a straight downward progression like we'd like.

You must have lost quite a bit of weight very quickly after surgery. There was probably a lot of Fluid. Your body may be compensating for that now, so your not seeing the scale move. Hang in there, it will happen!

I'm kinda mad at myself. I go for my third fill this afternoon, and I weighed this morning, and I'm down 4-5 lbs. I weighed about 2 days ago, and I was down 8 lbs. for the month. I'm mad because we threw my cousin a graduation party last night, and I ate too much. Now I'm up three lbs., and I'm afraid to go get my fill because I don't know what the doctor will say. He isn't mean or anything, and probably won't say much, but I'm mad at myself for eating too much last night.

Congrats on your weight loss!!

I was banded the week before you and have lost an amazing 26 pounds since.

Please note that I didn't use the "O" word.

For about 4 weeks my weight was bouncing between 246 and 250. I waited it out and it finally broke. It is about patience and not worrying about small roadblocks.

How much Water are you drinking? Water is a very important ingredient in weight loss. It acts as a filter and also prevents you from retaining fluids.

Also, make sure you are getting at least 50 grams of Protein a day.

You really do have a great start here with this 25. I think your body may be getting used to what you are giving it. My personal trainer, surgeon, and dietician reccomend mixing things up a bit to get your body to reset.

Try eating more calories than you usually do one day, and then less than normal the next. Adjust your exercise from a jog to a yoga or weight training session one day a week. Even drop the Protein intake one day and focus on a balanced carb/protein ratio (7g of Protein = 15g of carb).

Before I had the band I would do this when my weight loss would stop and it got me going again. Since I've had the band, and its only been a month, I did this for a few days and was able to bring some loss the following week.

Keep on going, we all know you will get over this hump.

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
