Not sure if I should be concerned

Recommended Posts

SO a week ago I got banded and when I got out I had 4 small incisions that were covered and one large one, then I had a small cut looking thing not covered. I didn't know why but I thought hey they know what they are doing. So today the butterfly bandaid about an inch away from the uncovered cut starts really bothering me and its almost coming off anyways so I took it off. Come to find out THERE IS NOTHING UNDER IT.

This really bothers me, Idk who covers the incisions, if its my surgeon, that really bothers me, if its the 12 year old looking nurse, I will be upset but at least I know it wasnt my dr.

Im thinking about sending an email to one of the girls in my surgeons office and addressing the concern. Am i making too big of a deal out of this?

I'd say don't blow up at them because you are ok, but I would send the email. What if you ended up with an infection because they didn't dress the incision correctly.

I don't know what to say I got banded two weeks ago this friday the Dr. told me if there was any redness or tenderness to check back with him. I have done real good no pain or soreness if you think you nedd to get it checked out go to the Dr. rather be safe than sorry good luck.

I think you could send the email as a question, not a complaint.

So you had a butterfly bandaid with nothing under it?? Maybe it was there to hold something?

I guess I am not much of an authority. I forgot to even ask where my port is! I have no clue.

An extra piece of tape stuck to your skin by accident. It's totally not a biggie.

OTOH, it's really normal for things like this to feel like they're bigger than they are when you're recovering from surgery--there's lots of hormonal and other upheaval that magnifies small things.

ETA: FWIW, it's very, very common for small incisions to be left uncovered. If this HAD been an incision, it would also be a total non-issue if it had just been butterflied.

None of my incisions had dressings on them--even the port incision. I had butterflies, and that was it. No biggie. Doctor preference, is all.

The rest of my small ones were covered. I emailed them and this one was suppose to be covered too. She blamed it on maybe it moving when they were covering me. Doubtful. I think the nurse just put it in the wrong spot. But it looked fine, I just wanted to know why i had no butterfly on just one incision but a butterfly on NOTHING.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
