so when does vomiting become "excessive" ?

Recommended Posts

My question today is when does vomiting become "excessive" ? Ive read site after site after site about how your band may slip or your pouch may stretch if your vomiting becomes "excessive"

Does anyone have a guesstimate about how much is too much?

Ive had a recent fill and was not used to my band being so tight in the mornings so Ive ended up throwing up/sliming about 7 times since.....

now my stomach is pretty sore, is this something i should worry about or is it just from my muscles being sore from dry heaving/throwing up/sliming?

I know I know, "call the doctor if youre unsure" but its too hard to get through to a nurse!

When you throw up blood that is too much!! I threw up blood after getting stuck on a small piece of chicken. Then about 10 minutes later threw up blood clots. Called my Dr he told me I busted a blood vessel. Not the fault of the band. But put me on liquids for 5 days. It was my fault for eating what I knew I have trouble with.

If you are throwing up it is usually our own fault. Not chewing well enough or eating too much or too fast or you are way too tight! Don't risk it chew little bites and do not eat stuff you know you should not. If it keeps up you should see your Dr. Throwing up all the time is not normal or fun!!

thanks! I havent got to the point of throwing up blood and I hope I dont! and I think youre right about it being my fault....Im eating too fast, I think. Ill be swallowing a bite and then put another right in my mouth before seeing if that last bite has made me full! Im trying to get better just hoping I dont ruin my band in the process!

I think you will be fine. I have learned to try to chew better now. But for some reason if I get stuck it always has to come up, it will not go through. Only one time did I get stuck and it go through and I was stuck about 10 hours before it went down. Some people get stuck and slime and slime but not me it just comes up. I do not have to make myself throwup it just comes up. But my friend who was banded 2 days after me is the opposite she has never thrownup she just slimes and slimes until somehow it goes through. Not sure why we are so different but we are.

It probably depends on the doctor and a lot of factors. My surgeon has banded between 14 to 70 years old.

samualpinedo,

I would look into getting banded for sure. It is one of the best things I've every done for myself. At 41, my only regret is I didn't do it sooner.

I have a 15 yo daughter and I would ask my surgeon to help her out if she were struggling. I would think sooner rather than later to offset any long term damage and disease. Good Luck!

it depends on your doctor and your insurance, Im sure but I say go for it! I was supposed to have gastric bypass when I was 16 but it didnt work out and I am soooo thankful to God now because I have the lapband! If you need any help with researching doctors and all of that give me a holler!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
