what do you recommend to "eat" after surgery?

Recommended Posts

I was just get peoples opinions on the types of Protein Shakes you like, how you blend it to make it taste best, tips on recipes for "mushies" etc. At some point I will also be looking for recipes (regular foods) that are lapband friendly and tasty also so feel free to drop those in too if you have found something.

Creamed Soups with unflavored Protein Powder (GNC) and Cream of Wheat are a great way to start with the eating process. I also had a baked yam about a week out. Greek style yogurt is very good also. Sprinkle a little honey on top. Very high in Protein and low in sugar and calories. I also added fruit to my shakes and some people say to add Peanut Butter to them. Hope this helps...Best wishes!!! ps remember to drink a lot of water...that also helps.

On liquids I liked to take Tomato juice thin a little with Water add a vegi consume square and heat. Good for when you crave salty flavors. I got really tired of Jello and pudding.

On full liquids loved potato Soup with a little cheese on top.

and cream of broccoli and cheddar Soup mix.

Refried Beans with cheese are a great mushy food (and high in protein)! I never found a shake that I liked, but after surgery, I had the Isopure Protein drink that tastes like Gatoraid a bunch. It's good -- they sell it at GNC.

I have a few Soup recipes posted on my blog that I really liked. I froze them in individual portion size plastic containers and took them to work for lunch a lot. Was a great way to make sure I was eating healthy food and monitoring portion size! If you go to the link to the SOB blog on the right side of my page, you can find a shortcut to two of the soup recipes in the Q&A that I did.

Hope that helps! Best wishes for your success!! :smile2:

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
