I was banded 5/13 (just over a week ago).

Yesterday I lifted something that was heavier than I thought it was going to be.

I felt a pull where my port is and since then I keep getting a dull but really bad pain in my port area. Like stop what I'm doing and just put pressuer on the area type of pain. The pain is not constant. My port area is not red, hot or swollen.

Any ideas or suggestions? I feel like an idiot! If I realized it was that heavy I never would have lifted it

I was going to wait until Monday and if it's still hapening call the dr. Do you think I should call sooner?

It sounds as though you have probably torn the stitches on your port. There is no harm in phoning your Dr for peace of mind, if they have a weekend no available. I very much doubt though that they will do anything before Monday anyway. You will probably be advised to rest and take it easy and take painkillers for the pain.

I am not sure what the Dr will do if you have torn the stitches. I think quite often they will leave it as if it is still more or less in the correct position it should be fine. If it has moved dramatically then you may need a future surgery to correct it but I don't believe that is always necessary. It all depends on whether or not they can access it to get saline in.

Good luck.

I agree, that you probably didn't do much damage and just tore a stitch. There's not much the doc can do for that and it will heal. Just be careful. I did not lift anything over 10lbs. for over a month. You could call him for the peace of mind as the PP stated. Best wishes!!

Thank you! That made me feel better. I was afraid I might have done something really really bad. If I still have pain today I'll call in the morning. (so far, no pain today - keeping my fingers crossed).

I don't think you tore a stitch at all. I think you used those muscles that its stitched to and it made you have some pain. I was shoveling rocks friday and felt the same pain yesterday it was better and today its gone. The port is attached to muscles so if you use those muscles and they tighten its only natural to hurt. I was worried at first too till i thought about it. hope nothings wrong but pretty sure your going to be fine.

I was told to not bend over too much for the first two weeks post op. I have seven rabbits, two chinnies, and a guinea pig who need fed. I bent down a couple of nights ago to open one of the rabbit cages and felt a really sharp pain at my port site. I got really scared, but everything seems fine. It just make realize I have to be more careful. When stitches are outside the body, they are taken out 7-10 days post op. Yesterday would've put u 9 days post op, so everything is probably fine. Your muscles are still healing and are going to be sore and weak. If the pain would keep up though, I'd call your Dr. to be safe!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
