I stopped losing weight

I got surgery May of 2009. Its been a year since my surgery and at first the lbs were just flying off.. but then i stopped losing the wieght. I started at 217 and went down to 188 in about 3 months but then I gained back most of the weight. Its been a year and as of now I am at 200lbs give or take. My doctor told me that I am fine and just need more adjustments but I have already had around 6. I feel like such a failure..

Seems like there are quite a few such posts and most seem to point to the need for some type of adjustment, whether it be band, diet or activity level.

What's your typical daily diet like? How about exercise?

Don't feel bad! How are you doing on your Protein intake? I noticed when I stop losing and start gaining that I'm not getting enough protein in my diet. As soon as I start back up again, the weight starts falling off.

I'm sorry you feel like you failed, you haven't but I understand that you feel that way. Are you looking for advice on how to restart the process? If so please give us some more information about what you eat, how often, plus your exercise if you are doing any and maybe we can help you with a plan. Its never too late to start again.

I did the same thing but I let it get to far out of hand. Your Dr. is probally right when he says all you need is an adjustment. That is all it took to get me back on track.I had gained all the weight I had lost and more.

The exercising isnt that much of a big deal to me. I run for about half and hour to an hour atleast 4 times a week, and if i dont run, i usually just walk for a long time, i walk everywhere.

As of my diet, I try to eat every three hours, but food isnt always available to me so most of the times i eat anywhere between 4 to 6 hours and I dont eat a lot. I mainly eat 2 eggs for Breakfast, if not yogurt with some cheerios. If i eat lunch i usually have some type of chicken by itself and for dinner lately ive been eating a lot of fish or Soup followed by a salad. I wont lie, sometimes i eat more than what i should. I usually eat a lot if i eat with my family, ill eat to the point where i am way too stuffed. As of Desserts i have been doing a pretty good job staying away from them, no chocolate, which is my biggest weakness. and i hate candy and i dont drink soda at all. I usually have plain Water, water with lemon or on occasion ill have iced tea.

Im aware that after a year i should have lost more weight than what i already have, but i am definetaly not going to give up!

sounds like there might be some hidden calories in there. Try skipping the Cereal and add more protien instead. When you eat salad do you use dressing? my Dr. says stay away from the salad and stick more to protiens. Give it a try and see what happens. Also you might try the 5 day pouch test it might just give ya a jump start.(google 5 day pouch test)

Every so often, I do a 24 hour liquid (Protein shake) diet to get myself back on track. I am always sure to measure my foods. When I don't measure, I stop losing. . .

try eating out of smaller dishes and measuring 1 1/2 cups of food each meal.

Also, you may want to get your blood checked. You could have a thyroid or other issue making it more difficult to lose.

Sounds like you're exercising a good amount. The other thing you can try is tracking your calories for a couple days. Sometimes there are hidden calories we miss.

One month I only lost 1 pound, and my doc told me to leave the last bite or two of each meal on my plate. That equals around 300/400 calories per day and can make the difference. Instead I just went back to measuring foods, and the next month I had lost 12 lbs! So you can try that too. . .

I see a lot of good things that you are doing in your posts, like no sodas or candy, lots of exercise, drinking your Water. One thing that concerns me is when you say sometimes you go 5 -6 hours without eating, if I go too long without eating I get really hungry and which leads me to overeat and then I am hungry the rest of the day. I try and keep Protein bars with me just in case. But be careful some of them are no better than candy bars, they need to have 1g of Protein for every 10 calories. I also keep tuna packs and a plastic fork. Being prepared is so important to my eating plan.

Are you using a web site to journal your food? I think it is so important to point out hidden calories. When I had my first plateau I told my husband I wasn't losing but I was doing everything right, and he said no your not, and pointed out things that I eating and not taking into consideration. Once I started journaling I made better choices because each time I ate something that was high in calories that I didn't realize I would tell myself, I'm not eating that again. So even if you journal for a few weeks it will help you see where extra calories are sneaking in. My friend uses fitday.com and loves it. Be sure and weigh and measure everything you eat.

My old boss use to say "If you keep doing what your doing, your going to keep getting what your getting." So basically if you want a different result you are going to have to do something different. I hope some of this helps you in some way.

And one last piece of advice, listen to your Dr.

If your doctor believes that you require additional adjustments, why have you decided you know better than he?

Really, successful loss is contingent on a few things:

*eating properly (EVEN WHEN YOU DO NOT YET HAVE APPROPRIATE RESTRICTION)

* exercising regularly

* working with your doctor to ensure that you achieve appropriate restriction.

We know that you have not adhered to the last. But what about the other two? What are you eating on a daily basis? (I see you've listed a general idea, but how about journaling to see what you're really taking in?) What are you doing for exercise--and how can you bump it up to challenge your body?

You really need to put ALL of the puzzle pieces together in order to achieve success. Having the band placed was just the very FIRST step in a lifelong process.

I'd say that the first stop should be your doctor's office---he's told you you need to work on more fills to get restriction. It's time to trust him.

I think you guys are right.. hidden calories.. gets the best of us!

As of my salads, i dont use Salad Dressing I HATE salad dressing and there isnt any ever in the house. I usually squeeze a lime into my salad and put a little of salt and olive oil, so much healthier than salad dressing.

I think its about time i stop bein lazy and start using a food journal.

As for my exercising, I usually mix up speed walkin with jogging, I heard that changing the pace in workouts helps burn more calories so I jog for a minute and speed walk for a minute. If I dont jog, Ill do a stepper, I own the airclimber so I do that and also use the rubber arm things to work out my arms a bit.

Thanks everyone for giving me some motivation and hope! I have my doctors appointment this wed! Im also going to schedule an appointment for the swallow test I think its called. So the doc can make sure I didnt streatch my stomach out.

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
