Do you have to take Protein Drinks, Vitamins, and what not for energy after the band or does the little food that you are able to eat suffice?

Jini-

I'm on day 3 and I'm taking Vitamins and Protein drinks because I noticed that my muscles were aching. I figured that was from a lack of potassium or protein or both. Apple juice just wasn't cutting it. My husband got me the Isopure clear protein drinks from GNC- and they're not so bad. They're FULL of good stuff too.

Good to know! I do not enjoy those things, but I guess i'm going to have to make it work for a while anyway.

Yes you should take Vitamins and Calcium every day unless your doc says different. Always discuss it with him/her first.

As far as the Protein drinks. There are some days where I'm just not in the mood to eat alot of meat/cheese/dairy/beans to get my Protein in so having the drinks available is a great back up :)

I just heard from a lapband friend who has been ill due to malnutrition. That scared the hell out of me. I have not been taking in much since surgery but I'm going to do all I can to get my multi Vitamin and Protein down.

I think its wise - most people are fine when they jsut diet because lets face it, they usually dont diet for very long. Althoug a lot of overweight people are malnourished anyway due to the amount of processed food they consume. Even in general, people today are not active enough to be able to consume the amount of food their bodies require for complete nutrition without seriously overdoing the calories.

But a lap band forces you to keep the calories and quantity down, for a very long priod of time, well forever really, and it would be sensible to supplement. It's also sensible, although easier said than done, to not waste stomach capacity on bad food choices.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
