I don't know about Mexican places elsewhere in the country, but here (I'm in Texas) I can almost always find a chicken breast or tilapia fillet entree on the menu that's a healthier choice. Ranchero sauce is always better than queso or cream sauce, and often the dishes will simply be topped with a peppers, onions, and Tomato saute instead. yum!

I'm just going to have to hope my band will help me avoid my Mexican food nemesis -- tortilla chips! I used to be able to easily go through at least 2 baskets all by myself while waiting for the food to show up, eek!!

On the chips here is what I do. I take the small corn tortillas and cut them into 4 wedges for each tortilla. Then I spray a cookie sheet with olive oil spray and put them in a single layer, then spray the top and sprinkle them with sea salt. Put them in the oven at 450 until they get browned and crispy. They are really good and don't have the oil calories! Never had a problem with them getting stuck either.

This won't help you in a restaurant but they are good to make at home.

I'll have to remember that when I get a chip craving! I'm still on mushies for a couple more weeks, so it's not something I can try yet. :frown:

I do wish there was a transport medium for salsa that was healthier - but just as tasty!! - as tortilla chips. :tt1:

I was banded May 27th and have eaten out.. but I went to a family resturant... baked fish.. steamed carrots... that was fine.. I went to a Middle eastern when on Mushies and had humus... Appetizer size... I think we have to really plan ahead when going someplace... I don't think I am ready for alot of places... but fish.. or mushy stuff... I feel good about and had no problem.. I guess.. just think ahead.. and be conservative.. for now... It worked for me...

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
