What is your goal weight for your height?

Recommended Posts

I'm curious as to how everyone else is setting their goal weights. I've seen very successful bandsters be just outside of the normal BMI and originally I was trying to get inside the BMI but at 5' 8" (sometimes 5' 9" depending on who's measuring) and an x-large frame (I know it's x-large because the doctors measured that, too) I don't know if 155, which was my original goal, is that realistic. Even my nutritionist told me to be a bit more conservative. LOL!

So, I reset it to 170 thinking that if I hit that, maybe I can re-evaluate to see where I am. I have a long way, still, but the road doesn't look AS long as it did.

I'm curious to hear - what are your goals for your height? I'd love to know! I just think it helps me to hear from other bandsters and know that ultimately it's probably the NSVs that really matter.

I am also 5'9" and my goal weight is 165. That weight would put me just under the 'healthy' BMI limit of 25.

Ideally, I would like to weigh 150, but I am not sure if that is really realistic for me. My surgeon said that 165 is doable, but 150 might be something that I would REALLY have to work at getting to.

I would just like to see the 100's again!

I am 5'4 and my goal is 150. I will likely change this is the weight I remember looking my best at. (at least as an adult).

I'm 5'6" and my goal weight is 133 pounds, which is a 21.5 BMI - right in the middle of the 'normal' range.

I'm 5'4, and I set my goal to 135 to be closed to the middle of the healthy range. I don't remember ever being that weight, so I may have to re-evaluate as I get closer to that number.

My surgeon's range, for my height, is lower than most ranges from other sources: 99-121. (Weight Watchers' range is 109-137).

My goal is 109. My doctor's goal for me is 127--it's a level where I've maintained long-term in the past.

I'd like to get to 109 because of back and ortho issues that just feel better the less I carry. I will reassess as I get closer, though--if it's not realistic, I'll revise.

My dietitian asked me what I wanted my goal weight to be, and I had no idea. I thought they would help me set that, tell me what was healthy, etc. They said nothing to me and expected me to come up with a number all on my own. So I just said I'd like to be below 200. I haven't ever been that low, not for a long long time, like maybe middle school, so that would be an amazing accomplishment. I figure once I get there, I will see how I feel and how far I want to keep going after that.

One factor that nobody has mentioned is age. I'm not sure if it's a myth or not but I'm under the impression that you should factor in a few more pounds as you get older. So I don't expect to get to the lowest weight of my early adult years. Maybe somebody with more information on this subject could add to this thought.

I'm 5'6" and shooting for 140 lbs. My surgeon and nutritionist both feel this is a doable and reasonable goal.

This is a tricky one for me. I was banded on 4/14. I'm 6'3" and was weighing in at 406 lbs. I'm 363 lbs today so I think I'm doing pretty good. When my surgeon asked me my goal weight I said 275 which is what I weighed my senior year of high school 11 years ago. Thing is that is still considered morbidly obese. My doctor had said I could get down to 200 lbs if I really wanted to but I haven't been 200 lbs since 8th grade! And even at 200 lbs I'd still be considered overweight. I'm not worrying about where I end up right now, just worrying about how I'm doing so far. If I feel good at 300 lbs maybe that's where I should be, if not I'll just try harder. I never intend to be 180 lbs...which is right in the middle of the "normal weight" range for my height.

I'm 5'10", and 170 puts me in the "healthy" weight range, so that's my uber-goal. The smallest I've been is 185, so my plan is to get there, then re-evaluate.

I am 5'4'', I have never been "petite" in my life, so I am shooting for 150...that is reasonable.

I'm 5' 7", goal weight is 150. Maybe 145 so when I have clothes and shoes on I'm 150. Which is in the normal range.

I always thought I was big boned too, mom always said I was "solid". Turns out it was mostly padding. I'm noticing now that I'm really just a normal built person.

How I chose this goal was about 7 years ago I got down to 164 lbs and at that time my goal was 150. When I was at 164 I thought, okay, 14 lbs and I'll look great. Now I guess I really want to show myself that I can make my goal, then evaluate if I need to lose 5 lbs more or stay where I'm at.

I've been thinking about ideal weight lately . . . good to see reponses . . . I'm 5'4" and am shooting for 145. I really believe I'll know when I get closer if I'm there yet...of course, healthy BMI first.

I'm 5ft. 2in., and I'm hoping for 120 but would be satisfied at 130.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
