Surgery scheduled for next week... find out today I'm pregnant

Recommended Posts

So I go in to have my EGD done today and the surgeon comes in and says he can't do my surgery because Im pregnant. Needless to say, it wasn't something we had planned, but I am happy to be having another child :) I am also a little bummed to be not having surgery next week. I've waited so long to do this for myself.

Anybody gone thru this before? Did you have the surgery after the baby was born? What about any losing weight while pregnant, any good (healthy) diet ideas?

Thanks

Wow, that must be a surprise???. :) They say things happen for a reason. This way the baby will not be lacking nutrition. I'm sure you can eat very healthily and not put excess weight on. Have a healthy

baby:smile2:!!! You'll just have to try again next year.

Best of Luck,

I know how you are feeling... Back in Nov. of 2008 I finally decided on Lap Band and made the appointment with my primary care doctor to get a referral. Well, before my appointment a few weeks later I found out I was pregnant. It was a total shock bc we hadn't planned on having a second child bc I had a very complicated first pregnancy that resulted in my son being born 8 weeks early. I am so thankful that it happened now. I ended up having a non-eventful pregnancy and now have a wonderful 10.5 month old son. I firmly believe that things happen for a reason.

As for my pregnancy, I managed to go through the whole thing with gaining NO weight. I watched what I ate (although I didn't have to be real crazy about it). By about three weeks post partum, I actually weighed almost 20 lbs less then when I got pregnant. So yes, it's possible to not gain!

Congratulations!

The American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology has revised guidelines for weight gain in women who are obese. They do not, however, recommend weight loss.

Sometimes, a bit of loss is unavoidable--due to things like hyperemesis. And babies do tend to fare well in these situations. However, intentional weight loss during pregnancy is discouraged--there are increased nutrient needs.

Talk with your OB about this. Some will permit weight maintenance if you are meticulous about meeting nutrient needs; I did this with my last pregnancy, with great results. (Large, healthy baby.)

Good luck--what an exciting turn of events for you.

(Good that it happened now--in the year after banding, it would be tricky--but now you can have your babe, then be banded!)
