Need Some Advice ASAP

Recommended Posts

So my husband has a job that has great insurance, he just got the job in Feb. 2010. I just found out that the insurance company will pay for my WLS after three months with a dietician. I went a week ago to the dietician and started getting things on track to hopefully have my surgery in August 2010. The problem is my husband HATES his job, well he had an interview today with a company that he applied for when he got his current job. They have benefits but we do not know if they will help or pay for any of the WLS. My job gives me benefits but does not cover any cost of WLS. My husband will call on Tuesday and find out if he has the job, he and I are worried that this will prevent me from getting my surgery and he is very supportive of me having it done (he will do whatever to make me happy):cursing:. He has offered to stay at his current job even though he HATES it, but I don't want him to lose this opportunity. I don't know what to do, please let me know if anyone has any suggestions. I have tried to find out what insurance company the new job offers but can not find any information on it at all. :)

I also forgot to mention that the interview went very well and he was shown around and met some of the employees after the interview, so he thinks he may have got the job if he accepts it.

If you opt to take COBRA coverage with his current plan you should be covered for surgery even if he leaves his current job. COBRA is expensive, but if it covers surgery it's so worth it. Call insurance and be honest with them they can confirm if COBRA will still cover surgery.

Good luck!

I work in HR and this is what I would do. If your husband gets an offer (NOT before) he should say that he needs to speak with the someone who is an expert on the Health Insurance coverage; this might be the Benefits Manager in the HR department or they may put him in contact with the Health insurance company or companies the employer offers. He can then ask if they cover LAP-BAND® and if so what their requirements are. A recruiter probably won't be able to answer this question (I am a recruiter and until I looked into LAP-BAND® myself I didn't know that my employers' insurance covered it.). If he gets push back on why he needs to speak directly with someone he should just say that he has specific questions. My sister did this to find out if her Arthritis treatment would be covered by her husbands insurance, $5,000 a pop.

FYI About Cobra. You would need to stay on Cobra until the next Open Enrollment usually Nov/Dec if you don't choose to go on the new employers health insurance when your husband changes jobs. COBRA could well cost you about $1,000 a month, I don't want to sound neg. just want to give you an idea of the cost of Family Cobra coverage.

Thank you, I was going to try to find out about the health insurance, but I could not find anything on line about what insurance company the new job offers. So I guess we will wait until Tuesday and find out if he got the job and if so what is going to happen. I will keep eveyone updated. Thank you all so much for all your suggestions.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
