Hi David! I too had surgery on 5/24/10. How are you doing? I think I am recovering as expected. I am mostly resting for now. Yesterday was worse than surgery day (I think all the anesthesia and numbing wore off) and then today was a little better than yesterday. I had a very large hiatal hernia repaired also.

I did get the shoulder pain and the abdominal distention with gas, tho....tmi...sorry :smile2:

Hope you do very well!

Denise

Hi,

I also had my surgery on May 24th. Hard to believe that its only been 9 weeks. So far, so good, excellent surgery, I was back to work in two days and I've had two fills. I've lost 24 pounds but am becoming obsessed with every ounce lost and gained!

How about you? How is it going?

Sandra

Hi Sandra,

Things are going okay for me. I was very afraid of beginning any exercise too early and have now been on my 5K training program for 3 weeks without any problems. I too have had 2 fills. Not quite at the sweet spot, but hopefully that will be soon. I suppose slower is better...don't want to stretch the pouch. I have a total loss of 31 pounds, but only 15 of that is since surgery. I only lost 1 pound last last month. I think I was eating too much at mealtimes, however, my surgeon told me to eat whenever I got hungry as it is too hard to eat slowly and small bites when hungry, which is still a problem for me, and I have pretty bad pain from the restriction when I swallow too much or too often. It's a learned process. I just hope I don't damage something while learning. Anyway, hope you continue with your success. It sounds like you are doing an awesome job! Keep me posted! And yes, I try to only weigh once a week, but it is hard not to every day!

That's my surgery date too!!!!!!!!! I'm soooo pleasedddddd with my wgt loss! So far I've lost 41 pds for a total of 52.5, if you include the six-month presurgery diet. Of course, I lost a lot of wgt during that pre-op diet to the pt the shakes and my meds were making me sick! Thank goodness that is over!

I have to keep journaling my food or I get off track and eat food too high in fat!!!!!!! It's always such a process! But this one is working! The nurse cautioned me that at some pt the wgt loss will slow down but not to get discouraged!

I've been adding walking to my biking. I'm doing a 31 mile bike ride on Aug 21st! So far I'm only back to 16 miles. Just hope my bummmm can handle the seat for that long!

It sounds like you're doing great! I've got a very bad knee that limits my activity (running, biking) but I've started walking and am trying to swim at least 3-4 times a week for an hour at a time. I've had a few problems with the restriction -- wow, one bad swallow and I see stars! But everything has been pretty gradual. I think I may join a ww support group at work to reinforce portion size and encourage better food choices. Despite my slow weight loss, I feel so much better and can do much more... no regrets!

Stay in touch and keep up the great work!

Kelly,

That is totally awesome. Sounds like that pre-op really jump started you, my diet was only required for 2 weeks. Thus far, no complaints and each day the world seems to open up a bit more in terms of activity and just having fun.

Keep it up!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
