Don't get discouraged guys!!

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone. I've been reading through all the new posts and read lots of posts of discouraged folks. Come on guys... we've made it this far. It didn't take us such a short time to put on the weight so we've got to be patient and know that it'll take time to get it off. I really needed to read the posts cause I was getting that "ah shouldn't I have lost more..." thought, but I realized we are all doing great!! Look what we've accomplished so far. I was "doing the math" as one of the posts suggested and realized there's no way I would have lost the weight I have without my band. Yes there is days I would just like to take a bite as big as my fist outta a big fat juicy cheeseburger, but hey.. that's the breaks.. it's all good. I had my surgery in February and have lost 43 pds. I feel so much better and can walk without getting out of breath. That is just 2 of my payoffs so far. So please don't get discouraged guys, just think where we'd b without the band. Have a great day!!!:w00t:

thanks I needed this post today. Went shopping for a shirt and it's not that I was expecting to have dropped sizes or anything, but it I was a bit frusterated that I had surgery march 2nd and it is soon to be june 2nd 3 months later and I havent really made much progress IMO. I am still hungry, still "dieting" and realize now that I actually have a food PROBLEM!! head hunger has been difficult to deal with and since I have not reached restriction I don't know the feeling that everyone talks about where they eat 1/2 a cup of food and know they will vomit if they take another bite. hell at this point I can take that big fist size bite of the burger you mentioned...........and keep taking them till it is gone :w00t: granted I dont do it, btu I am so ready of my band to be giving me a bit more of a hand then it is thus far.

Honestly, there are a lot of people that not doing research. They are expecting too much. There are many people that are posioning this board with their insane expectations. Then they come on here complaining that they don't lose weight or they want to reach their sweet spot with their first fill. Frankly, I think these types of people should have just gone with the gastric bypass since they seem to want to lose 60% of their weight in 6 months.

You will always have a food problem. It is not the band's fault. It is your mind. The band doesn't change how your mind works - only you. Head hunger is not the fault of the band either - it's your and your mind. The band is only a tool and not magic. You need to reevaluate your thinking.

Great post, BMoon. Doing the math really does help put things in perspective, doesn't it?

You're doing really well!

It is frustrating, waiting for proper restriction. It can take months of tinkering with fills. But the 12 1/2 pounds I have lost so far would never have been lost without the band. In fact, I probably would have gained without it.

I find that attending support group meetings and journaling about my feelings is very helpful for dealing with the bigger issues of why I want to overeat.

I also see a therapist regularly. It's good for me to check my perceptions against an impartial observer's reality. Fortunately I found a wonderful therapist who charges on a sliding scale so it is affordable for me.

It's not easy (not yet at least) but I feel it will be very, very WORTH IT!

I love reading these kinds of posts. I was banded on 5/3 and lost 39lbs between my 2 week preop and 9 day post op dr appt. I know that won't stay that way, but i cant wait to be able to start doing this math!!! good luck everyone!

Clearly either I was not clear enough in my post or you are just misunderstanding me. I in NO WAY think the band is a magic tool and did a ton of research prior to choosing the band. I am willing to put in ALL the work it requires. I also know that the band does not help head hunger. what I was saying in that statement is that prior to the band I thought that I was just a big eater and it took large portions to be full (something that could be helped with the band) I am now realizing that I have a food issue as I suffer from head hunger, and I am dealing with it. not thinking that the band will deal with it for me. It will however be easier to loose weight once I get the right amount of fill. Sorry my post some how offended you but if you took the time to look at any other post by me prior to instructing me to "reevaluate my thinking" you would realize that I am not one of those people on here waiting for the band to solve my problems and waiting to loose my weight in 6 months.

Hey Jill,

I think that you are allready doing a fantastic job as you are aware of what you need to do.

It isnt for anyone on this site to put people down as we all have needed help in one way or another and everyones needs are different.

Having this Lap Banding done has been a mond blowing learning lesson as i thought i was eating quite healthy, but now am realising that i thought i was doing all the right things.

I have lost about 15 kg's so far and was Banded on 12/02/10.

My thoughts at the time were that i will loose it all in 6 months and allthough this sounds nice, i now dont want this.

It took me years to put on all of this weight and it can take me 2 or more years to loose it and keep it off if at the end i am going to have a healthy mind and body.

I wish you good luck Jill and everyone else on this forum and hope that we can all be supportive of each other instead of putting each other down.

Good Luck :-)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
