diabetics, what HbA1C did you need before surgery?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

was wondering if anyone has experience with this. Did your surgeon require your HbA1C to be a certain level before surgery? I have type I and my blood glucose has been a bit wonky the past month or so. I'm afraid that the surgeon will not approve me if I need to get my A1C done right now.

Nobody said anything to me about what my number needs to be. I hope to god it doesn't have to be good, because mine hasn't been. Just got my blood drawn this morning and will find out soon what it was. Almost afraid to go into my doctor cause he's going to yell at me for sure. Hopefully my surgery news will distract him, hehe.

Hi,

Last Dec. my A1C was 8.1, REALLY Bad!!!!! My blood sugars were swinging high and low:scared2:. I just got my results back and with just a 10 loss I'm back to

6.5 much better. The endocronologist was happy. I hope the Surgeon will be too with the turn around,

I see him next Mon.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
