was banded on 4-7 and went in for my first fill today. i had lost 40 lbs as of 5-15, i was at 0 in my realize band. dr. gave me 5cc in the office and told me to try drinking a cup of Water. at half of the cup i started burping and feeling full and uncomfortable. for past 2 1/2 weeks been working out vigorously 5 days a week and was concerned i wasnt going to be able to keep myself hydrated.

he then added that it might be too restrictive so he took 1 cc out. was doing great today but when i came home i finished a can of Soup (15 oz) at 6:30pm then felt full but no burping or hick-up weird bubble feeling. at 9:30pm i felt really hungry and had another can of Soup (15 oz) with none of the symptoms i had in the office.

does this mean i don't have enough restriction at 4 cc but the right amount when i was at 5 cc and couldn't take a half cup of Water? or should i wait until i go back to solid food in 2 days to have a better gauge. sorry in advance if i'm being a bit obsessed

I can't answer your question - but I want to say congratulations on your success so far. I was banded on 4/7 as well and I won't get my first fill until 5/28. I am not having much luck losing right now. I have only lost 18 pounds and that was during the first 2 weeks. I sure what like to know what you are doing and what you are eating. Keep up the great work.

It's very typical for the restriction from the first (and second, and sometimes third...) fills to be very fleeting.

I think you will know more once you get to solid food. That is when restriction really comes into play. Fluids just slide right down to your big stomach. Don't hesitate to call for another appointment if this fill doesn't do the trick. Best wishes!

I am so glad to be reading this post. I go for my first fill on the 2nd and am a little apprehensive. I wanna keep up on how you are doing, (ok a little selfish on my part..lol) so as to see how it will go with me. I KNOW, I know, that everyone is different and every dr is different. I am afraid they aren't going to put enough in (as I drive three hours to my drs. one way) or put too much in and I have to go back in two or three days. Oh well, guess we shall see. Good Luck honey, let us know how it works once you get on solids.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
