I'm having my surgery tomorrow (Tuesday)

I am so nervous, and I hope that I have made the right decision to do this. I am spending a lot of the family's money, and we aren't taking our summer Disney trip so that I can have my surgery...I feel selfish, but at the same time, I think it is about time that I am a bit selfish...if that makes sense!

Good luck to everyone being banded!

~Hope

I, too, am having my lap band surgery tomorrow (May 18th, 2010). I am feeling excited but nervous. I am so ready to take my life back and start a new journey. You are not being selfish but this is not an elective surgery, it is a NEEDED surgery.

Lots of luck tomorrow. I will keep you in my prayers!

I have my surgery May 25. And it's so neat to see someone who's the same height and weight as me. We can be picture buddies!

I had my pre-op physical today and I am scheduled for Friday May 21st at 8:45 am. I am the first case of the day and have to be there at 6:45. I am so excited and nervous. I have to work the night before so at least I don't have to worry about trying to sleep, because there is no way that I can sleep when i'm overly excited/nervous. Good look to everyone!!

I had my surgery yesterday. Everything went very well. It was a piece of cake. I had to spend the night in the hospital (which I was happy about). The staff has been wonderful. I just had my barium swallow to make sure everything is flowing correctly, and I am now waiting for my doctor to come in and relelase me.

The waiting was the very worst part. I am so excited that I am banded!!!

I don't remember anything once they rolled me into the operating room. Getting tubed bothered me a lot, but if they wouldn't have told me I never would have known! They put it in and took it out while I was sleeping.

I was down 33 pounds yesterday, so I am pumped that I am on my way.

Best of luck to those of you in pre-op stages!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
