Nausea...did you un-fill?

Recommended Posts

I am only 6 weeks pg right now, but the symptoms are starting to set in. I have had horrible reflux the past few nights...I'm practically sleeping sitting up and even that does not help. This was never a problem for me before... I guess it's the bloating. Quite nauseated today as well, and so tight I could not get down broth at lunch. (Eating Soup now though at 6:30pm.) I was SO hoping I could stay filled for at least the next 6 months, but I'm definitely not getting the nutrition I need right now (hello, ice cream!) Has anyone been unfilled and then filled again later in pregnancy? Maybe I should just take out a cc? I'm 15 pounds from my goal, and though I'm THRILLED to be pg, I really don't want to gain 50 lbs with this baby! :)

It sounds like you need to get some of your fill taken out. Understand you can gain 25 lbs and it will all be baby. Try just getting 1 cc out to see if that relieves the problem. Later, as the baby grows, you will probably have to get a little more taken out. Let your body/band tell you when it is time to go back. Good luck.

I am having the same problem. Although I am thrilled to be pregnant, I am cursed with nausea for at lease the first 12 weeks, if not longer. This is how it was with my 1st as well! Everything I eat comes up. I am wondering if I should get an unfill as well. I am also worried about slippage because I throw up (I know that's gross) multiple times a day.

I was throwing up so frequently, I got a complete unfill. I have gained some weight, but nothing terrible. 58 days and counting until my due date...

I'm 11.5 weeks pregnant now, and have had some nasty nauseau, but haven't gotten an unfill yet. (Mainly because my doctor is in TX and we now live in FL, lol) I only have about 3.5-4 cc's in my 10 cc band, so I'm hoping to just keep it where it's at, but time'll tell I'm sure.

I have a hard time getting food down that doesn't want to make me hurl, so I'm pretty limited right now. I eat ice cream, appleasauce, smoothies (hubs makes them), Cookies.... all bad stuff. Red meat just started making me sick, chicken has done it from the get-go, and pork is a toss up, so I just play it by ear. So far I'm actually down about 6-7 lbs, so I haven't worried about any gain.

I toughed it out and I'm happy I did because now I'm 13 weeks and although it's still a little snug, the nausea if gone and I am really happy I have restriction because I am HUNGRY HUNGRY HUNGRY!! I know I would have gained 40lbs by now instead of 4!!!

Sounds like you need an unfill if you're getting reflux!

I got a total unfill at 8 weeks due to nausea during a gall bladder attack. I had planned to get a slight refill later on (with doc's blessing) but just ended up leaving it alone. At 38 weeks, I'm only up 23 pounds and feeling good about that, so it has all worked well for me.

Even with no fill, I can tell that things have swollen a bit as the pregnancy progressed and there are mornings/days where I almost get stuck on stuff that has worked fine for me before. I'm personally glad I left the fill out--it gave me plenty of room to weather the Fluid fluctuations and I managed to stick to a fairly reasonable gain.

If you're having symptoms of being too tight, I'd say you really do need some unfill. Good luck!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
