So aggrevated with the scale!!!!!

Recommended Posts

Every scale I get on gives me a different weight, I am really frustrated right now. My daughter went to the dr. last week and got on the scale so I adjusted mine at home to that one but then the surgeons office and the gym give me a higher number, If those scales are right then I have lost about 2lbs since surgery but my clothes are fitting looser and I'm losing weight in my face....

I wouldn't compare one scale to another- they are all going to be slightly different. I go by my bathroom scale in the morning, after using the bathroom. I only get on it once a week. I don't even think about the weigh ins at the doctors. That is fantastic your clothes are looser and your face is looking thinner. Focus on those positive things! You are doing great!

All scales are poopy heads! Go by only one scale. The way clothes fit is the best guide, while the scale is the quickest feedback. Scales are good for trends, but don't set your mood by what you see.

So long as you use the same scale every time you weigh it doesn't matter if it is 100% accurate or not.It will still measure your losses. Make sure you weigh at the same time and in the same state of dress or undress.

I feel the same with my scale. But I do an official weigh-in each Tuesday in the AM in the same outfit. I step on the scale 4 times and take the average of those four measurements as what I enter into my weight tracker.

I have stepped on and off to get a measurement that was as much as 3 lbs in difference.

Hang in there, the number on the scale is just a number. I have lost 11 lbs since surgery but it feels like so much more.

Does anyone track the inches they lose maybe that is what we should do as well sometimes its inches lost instead of the lbs...

My internist's scale is about 400 years old, resides in a hallway where it's continually bumped, and is--at his own admission--rarely calibrated. It, at very best, measures a downward or upward trend.

My gynecologist's scale is even older---his father started the practice, so it's been through two doctors' worth of patients banging up against it. It's calibrated every now and then---but still, at very best, gives a general idea of upward or downward trend in weight.

My scale is a very good-quality Terraillon digital scale. It weighs me at exactly 1 pound less than my surgeon's scale. Every single time.

My bariatric surgeon's scale is --- as one would expect in the office of someone who specializes in weight management-- state-of-the-art. Every single time I step on it, I weigh 1 pound more than I did at home.

That kind of consistency tells me that, of the four scales regularly used to weigh me, two are accurate: my surgeon's, and mine. Comparing them is no problem---because they are consistent.

My point is that, just because a scale is in a doctor's office, it doesn't mean it's accurate.

Stick to what your surgeon's scale tells you. And if keeping track of an accurate number is important to you, consider investing in a really good-quality home scale.

Don't let the rest drive you nuts.

ETA: Yes, I track inches. I take measurements monthly. Lots of times, when the scale is not cooperating, I do lose inches. In fact, I've been pretty much at the same weight for two weeks---and just got into jeans that definitely did NOT fit at the beginning of that two weeks. The scale doesn't tell the whole story.

Yes I have taken measurements as well. When it feels like the scale isn't moving it makes a huge difference as you can see that your body is changing.

Thanks Betsy that is some great advice!!!! And I am definitely going to start measuring inches because like you I am fitting into clothing that used to be tight. I am only 2 weeks post op so I can't expect miracles all of a sudden but I am just going to think positive. Joined the gym yesterday so with doing that the weight should come off pretty easily!!!!! I think no more scale until my next surgeons visit in June!!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
