So I'm 5 days post-op, and I realized I have not been eating a lot of food, at all. I do get my 3 meals a day in, but many times I'm forcing myself to eat them and most times I don't want them.

Should I be worried or is this normal? I know for a fact I'm not getting my Protein amounts in because I can't drink 2 Protein Shakes a day. I'm literally just full.

Any ideas of what I should do or is this plenty normal?

Thanks!

:smile:It is normal not to be hungry at this stage. My doctor insisted that is be on clear fluids for the first week (broth, jello) second week full liquids (cream Soups etc) mushed food third week no solids until fourth week. Maybe talk to the doctor to see what he recommends. Lots of luck to you!

Congrats on surgery! I think at 5 days post op I wasn't getting all my Protein either. At this point don't really worry about 3 "meals" a day. Just work on getting high Protein liquids down all day.

Everyone's post op diet is different, but I know at 5 days I was on full liquids that included puddings & yogurts. Don't force yourself to eat just try to sneak in small amounts when you can.

Good luck!

I feel exactly the same way, so you're not alone. Just push the Protein liquids as best you can and keep it up. Being a man, I need to keep my Protein intake at 75-80g per day.

Think of it this way, would you rather be hungry all the time?

No! I'm loving not being hungry, but I'm just worried about my protein amounts. I know protein is vital but it's just very very hard to get it all on while on liquids only. I bought some unflavored Protein powder and the smell makes me want to puke.

I'm on full liquids for 2 weeks, then mushies for 2 weeks, then normal food again. I'm just worried about Protein levels..and my hair falling out LOL. My NUT really stressed protein so I'm freaking out about not getting it.

I used the Protein shooters (seen em at GNC, Walmart and Target)-- 25-45 grams of protein in 3 oz.. not the tastiest but a easy way to get the protein when on liquids (I was clears for 10 days)... Pro Slam tasted the best to me..

I think I may try Protein Shots. I tried to make a Protein shake with 2 scoops of protein. Oh man. I took 2 sips and I want to throw up  I've seen people mix the protein shooters with Crystal Light, so maybe that will work.

There are a few powders that I hated. I found one called Any whey that is unflavored and mixes well in anything. The smell doesn't bother me; I'm not too sensitive. Pre-op, I was putting it in skim milk and on chicken, fish, & veggies. Try a small tub if you have a sensitive nose and good luck!

In the immediate postop period, it's not critical to load up on protein; your body has reserves (in part from the preop diet), so you'll be okay until you get your appetite back.

And your appetite will come back!

I was loving not feeling hungry either, but about 3-4 weeks after surgery, my appetite returned. It was fun while it lasted

Aaah, I fell into a rut at about 5 days too; I looked in the fridge and I just didn't want anything. I had to have alerts on my ipod to keep sipping on Water and having the two-three shakes. I also made a Fluid balance chart in excel like the ones we use at work with patients to keep track of everything. It was looking pretty bare the last few days but I've manned up. I don't want to lose my hair! ^w^

Yes, how you feel is normal. I used (and still use) Special K Protein Water mix. It tasted better than the sweet protein powders. It's easier to drink water than the shakes. They have 5 grams of protein and 5 grams of Fiber. Four a day really helps get in the protein and your water. Also the Jillian Michaels protein powder (available at Wal Mart) was much more palatable post surgery than others. Maybe it will work for you too.

Mix some fresh fruit, chocolate Syrup or even PB. My dr gave me some great Protein Shake recipes. Let me know if you would like some!

OH! OH! Excitement! I just realized my Mum got some of those Special K things from the Expo West organics/natural/food convention she flew over to in March. There were some Protein Shots in test-tube like packaging too that we're trying to source as well.

NZ is too small, grr!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
