This has me a bit concerned

Recommended Posts

I am having my surgery done next Friday May 21st. My ticket home is booked for May 23rd (2 days later). It is a 5 hour flight and then connect to a 1.5 hour flight to get home. The doctor thinks I will be fine, as I am young (32) and as long as I get up and walk on the plane every hour or so. Does this seem okay? I see some people are talking about whther it is okay to fly for vacation 3 weeks post op!!

No way to stay an extra day or two? I think the extra day would make a big difference, thinking bak on how I felt. I'm sure you'll be OK, but bring some items for comfort...a pillow for your head nd one for your abdomen, a blanket in case they don't have one on the plane. And take your pain med as soon as you get settled in. Use your anti-nausea stuff as well...don't wait to see if you get sick.

Wow.....yes I sort of agree with the previous post. I started feeling better around post-op day 4 or 5, but I have read on here some folks have their surgery on a Friday and are back to work Monday....so everyone is different. It will be a long day, you have to factor in getting to and from the airport, waiting for flight in those less than comfortable waiting areas....possible flight delays. So a 5 hour flight really is an entire day of travel. Also you will have to plan for your fluids. You will be fine, but be prepared, I understand if staying a few days longer is not an option. Good luck....and let us know how you make out.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
