How can you tell if the pouch is clogged?

Recommended Posts

I have so many new sensations that I'm having a hard time discerning one feeling from another. I ate some bits of shredded chicken in broth last night (about 1/3 cup) and since then, I feel like I have a softball stuck just below my breastbone. I have reverted back to liquids since then but am concerned that I might have done something wrong. How do you know if your pouch is full and not emptying? I've made up my mind to stay on liquids for the next couple of days, but I'm even concerned about how much liquid I can intake because of the bloating sensation. :w00t:

I actually like the softball feeling. It made sure i would not eat the rest of the evening.

It usually happens to me when I had too big of a bite or did not chew well enough. sometimes, I can feel the larger its going through the band... like a little pop.

That feeling may or may not indicate that you have something stuck. Often, a little stuck incident results in swelling that perpetuates the sensation for a while. (This swelling is why many of us revert to liquids for a day or so if we've had a stuck incident.)

Chances are, your stomach is still emptying. If you're able to drink fluids without them coming right back up, it's likely that you're feeling the aftereffects (increased swelling) of reintroducing solids too soon.

You're very, very freshly postoperative. Is solid chicken part of your doctor's recommended regimen for reintroducing foods? It's something that is difficult for many of us, even much farther out from the starting gate, to tolerate. I'd review the "rules" so that you don't cause yourself unnecessary discomfort.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
