Are you sipping really small? And did you have any fill put in when you had your surgery?

Hello, I went through the same thing. Please take very very small sips. It can be very painful if you take larger sips. I couldn't really swallow too much until about 7 days after surgery and if I take a big gulp now, 16 days post op - it is very uncomfortable.

Nothing like this happened to me, and in the directions I was given after surgery it says that if you vomit or foam at all to call your surgeon and let him know. Just to be safe that is what I would do. Although the small sip thing is common sense, just keep taking smaller and smaller sips and see if that helps. But def call your doctor and ask for his advice. I hope you feel better soon!

I am taking small sips and I have called the Dr., spoke with the secretary and the Dr. was suppose to get back to me but no one called me back. I am going to see if I can tough it out for the weekend. I will continue to drink and hope that at some point it will decided to stay down and I was so looking forward to drinking something other then Boost and crystal light, which is what I had for the 2 week pre op...thanks for all you help

Hope you are doing better. the thing I would worry about is getting dehydrated. It is my understanding that getting dehydrated can cause more swelling and you sure don't need that right now. If you get dehydrated you will end up back in the hospital on IVs. Call your doctor again. Please take care of yourself.

I am doing much better. I have been able to keep fluids down since Saturday. I still spit up a bit last night but not so much. I think that I was either having and adverse effect to the anesthesia and my sister who is a respiratory tech thinks that the spasms that I have been getting in my esophagus was from the intubation.

I'm having some Soup at the moment and it tastes good. I'm still not able to eat/drink what I should but hopefully I will hear from the Dr. office

Thanks everybody...I'm down 20 lbs as of today, from my preop weight which feels good.:)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
