Well I must say I am curious to know if I am the only one that loses slowly even with the band. Its been 4 months since surgery and I am 30 lbs down. I feel like I should be losing faster because I see others with less time since surgery with more weight loss.I feel that I am doing great because to me losing is better than gaining. If i lose 2 lbs its better than gaining it lol

I'm with you! i feel the same way at least I'm not gaining. I've been banded for 5 months and only lost 28 pounds but I'm kinda wondering if it because I've only had 2 fills.

Same here and I'm so tired of hearing I'm doing great. I see so many other people losing more and with much more restriction than me. I know I am not supposed to compare but how can I not? I do right. I follow the rules and yet it doesn't seem to be working as good for me as with others.

Everyone loses at different paces. Do not get discouraged. It's better to lose it slower anyway. You have to look at it differently, its not the pace that you are losing the weight, it's the fact that you ARE LOSING THE WEIGHT!! You are all doing wonderful. Stick to the plan, watch the calorie intake, drink your 64 oz of fluids a day, and if you can't really exercise at least try and walk. For those that can't walk, there are tons of exercises that you can do from a chair that will actually increase your heart rate so you can lose weight. Make sure that you are getting in your 80-90 grams of Protein a day also.

2 pounds a week is healthy. So really you seem to be on track. With all the additions and really carefully eating and exercising you may be able to boost it more.

Congrats on the progress so far.

You are not a slow loser! The band is designed for weight loss of 1 - 2 lbs per week. So after 4 months you should have lost between 17 and 35 lbs.

Do not compare yourself to others as everyone loses at different rates. There are some people who would give their right arm to have lost as much as you have in 4 months.

That's not a slow loss--it's right in the range expected from banding! You're doing great!

I was thinking the same thing. You are doing well. I am down 30 pounds in about 18 weeks and never thought I was losing slow. I got stuck a week here or there with no loss but this is a total life change it won't happen in 45 minutes on the operating table. I have learned alot and still have alot to learn. This is your individual journey make it what you want it to be.

My primary care doctor put it this way...how long did it take you to gain the weight? Probably a pound here, two pounds there... I am hoping to lose two pounds week. I've been on programs where I lost more but my skin didn't look good...when I lost more slowly I didn't get the sag as much. And 2 lbs a week for a year - 52 weeks - ...hmmm, sounds great to me!

I'm in your club, too. I had my surgery July 09 and I lost 30lbs. I hadn't lost anything since January....and this week I finally lost 2lbs!! I was so excited lol. Almost 6 months to lose anything....I was quite discouraged to say the least. I never ate much to begin with, so I'm told by my doc that it's part of my issue. The other is that I have a lot of muscle mass as we found out in my physical therapy eval prior to surgery where you had to stand on that machine and it measured your muscle vs. fat mass. I'm a solid person. They say it takes longer to lose weight. I'm still discouraged. I'm sticking to it, but know it's a slow-go. I had hopes of 50 by summer, but now I'd be happy with just 10. I know the 10 is an unreasonable goal, too. I see a nutritionist every 6 weeks and I hit the gym a few times a week with my other band friends. Not much else I can do.

I am with you...

I have a Fear of Failure-that I won't lose the weight, even though I had the Lapband.

I had surgery on 3/11/10 & have lost 16pds.

I have been frustrated & was wondering if retaining Water

is part of my problem. I don't think I am eating enough Protein & I know I am not drinking alot of Water & I am not exercising(do to my knee)...so the only one to blame is >>>ME!

Sometimes I just need a Cheer Leader!

I am losing slowly too. Am I working my band 100%? No. About 80%. I always lost slowly. Even on WW I would track to last oz for weeks and weeks and gain 3 pounds. Then, suddenly I'd lose 8....I am banded since October and down 35. 20 was lost in first month. I have just had my 4th fill and have not been hungry since then. I had to Make myself eat earlier. Very odd.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
