I'm having a hard time

Recommended Posts

I am 9 days post op and am on 3 Protein Shakes daily and then just tea, crystal light or water...The problem is I am hungry and I thought I wasn't supposed to be. I was making dinner tonight for husband and son and some of the ground beef jumped out of the pan and without thinking about it I picked it up and ate it! I am not supposed to eat any food at all until November 30th, but with no restriction I am really finding this hard, By the way, the beef went down no problem! Now I also have a problem getting all that Water in, If you can not drink until an hour after you drink a Protein Shake, and they take me an hour to drink them that kills at least six hours of a day sometimes more I am lucky if I get 30 oz. in. Any suggestions would be appreciated, November 30 just seems so far away and i don't want to screw this up.

You can have sf Jello, sf popcicles. I had the broth from wonton Soup, I ate egg drop Soup, sf hard candy, and I chewed on small ice cubes. The beef should have gone down no problem because you don't have a fill yet, but the problem is your tummy has to work to digest the beef and it's suppose to be healing. I was on mushies on my 13th day, I cheated a day, but i took it slow and easy.

YOU CAN DO IT, you've had the surgery, that's half the battle, hang in there!

My 1st week + was SOOOO difficult. I was starving..but i just kept reminding myself--"dont cheat, you didnt go through all this agony and pain for nothing",plus what if y7ou did decide to cheat and got sick? That has to be a terrible experience--i was already in enough pain i didnt want to make it worse! Just try to give yourself pep talks-you WILL get through this-it is a very trying time but if I can do i know you can! Good luck and keep your mind off of cheating and surf around LBT and the web on any other ideas/motivation,etc! You can do it!

Please, please don't cheat. I too thought I could sneak in some solid food on the liquid stage and paid the consequences for it. I got so sick that I landed myself in the hospital. For me it was such a horrible experience. I aggravated my band and caused swelling, then I kept trying to drink liquids and I would pb, so I would try again until I agitated my band to the point where nothing was going down, NOT even my own saliva. It was such a horrible feeling I felt to thirst and was so dehydrated. Please be very careful and follow your dr's instructions. That hospital visit for me was $15,000, had to have two mri'sl, who every thought a four hour visit to the hospital would cost that much. So please don't beat yourself up for having eaten that little piece of meat, but use my experience as warning of what could happen -Worse case scenario of course. I never do anything the easy way, that's for sure. Take care.

I know it sucks, but please know that it WILL get better! Hang in there, because it'll all be worth it in the end.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
