Hello, just joined the forum. I attended a seminar in April and on Friday I have my 1st consult with the surgeon for my lap band surgery. I am so nervous. I do not know what to expect or what the appointment involves. I have never had any type of operation and my biggest fear is going under! Other than high BP, I have no major medical issues. My weight has caused a lot of stress on my hips, knees and ankles and I become tired just from a short walk. I can't wait for my journey to move forward and enjoy life. Any feedback on what to expect from the surgeon consult would be appreciated. Thank you!:smile2:

Don't worry about the consult. It's pretty much to go over the medical forms you filled out and for the doctor to ask you about your health history. Pretty standard stuff and nothing to fret about.

The consult is the easy part. The surgeon will explain to you all about the surgery and what to expect both before, during and after the surgery. This is the time to ask questions. No question is stupid. That's what the surgeon is there for. Then depending on what type of insurance you have (unless you are self pay) your doctor will set you up with other consults from other doctors that your insurance might require. For instance mine took 6 months. I had to have 6 months of supervised diet from a nutritionist, 1 Psychiatrist visit, 1 cardiologist visit, 1 gastroenterologist visit, 1 Pulmonary visit, and a letter of diet habits and approval from my primary doctor.

As for the surgery, what you are feeling is very normal. But I will tell you that it's a pretty easy surgery. Yes it does hurt a little after but that's what the pain pills are for. This is probably the best thing I have ever done for myself. I am EXTREMELY happy that I had it done. The only regret that I have is that I didn't get it done sooner. I have not been to the weight that I am now since about 1989. I have only 34 lbs to go before I hit goal.

You will be fine. Go in there with your head held high and ask alot of questions. Please keep us posted with your progress. You can also read my blog. It might help you a bit.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
