I am three years out from my surgery and this problem just started for me. I haven't had a fill since November 2008 and I went in April and had a small fill. Well, that small fill had me up ALL night long choking on acid reflux. I went back the next day and they removed some of my fill and also put me on a prescription for acid reflux. I still occassionally have the issue and I will probably go back and get a little bit more taken out. It can be very dangerous and lead to removal of the band so please take it seriously and have Fluid removed from your band before it's too late and they have to take the entire thing out. My cousin, who has the band, just had all of her fluid removed because of it. So...be careful and good luck to you.

Thanks, so much. I gotta small unfill yesterday and am much better. Reflux is nothing to mess around with. Can cause lots of problems if it's untreated!

Ok! Just thought I would let you all know, that the taking it light on the esophagus and going back to the liquid diet only helped out 1 night. I've been up most of every night since then. I finally called my Dr. yesterday and have to go in to see him today. I'm so tired and ache all over. My lungs hurt too. I'm sure that he's going to take some/ probably quite a bit out of my band. That stinks since I was pretty much at my sweet spot. But, this Reflux stinks worse. I'll let you know tomorrow how it goes.

Been there, done that. Trust me a little unfill is well worth it. You should feel so much better. I had it all last week before my small unfill and I was absolutely miserable. I could not even keep anything down. Good Luck!!!

Hi Girls, Wondering if anyone can shed some light on my reflux. I have been banded for 4 years and from time to time had reflux because I was over filled. Up all night coughing up 'stuff' and then feeling so weak the next day are all familiar to me. A couple of mo9nths ago I was over filled and had some out (hard to find that 'sweet spot' isn't it) since then I have been eating pretty easily. I've put on some weight and was reading for a bit more fill but the past 3 - 4 nights I have had reflux again. I'm very confused because reflux was always about being too tight but what could be causing it this time? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers, Fleur

Well, that's 3 nights in a row now that I have actually slept like a baby. I can't believe that I'm not waking up getting sick all night. I called my Dr. on Tues. and saw him on Wed. for a band un-fill. I'm back down to 1cc. My Dr. said that I definitely had been way too tight and that even .25cc can be too much when you're at your sweet spot. He's leaving me with just 1cc for 2 weeks, then we'll be starting all over again with fills. I was really upset having to start all over. I felt like I had failed. But, I had to take a new look at things. I'm down 65 lbs.total. Was banded 1/18/10. I'm looking at it more like taking a little break. I was so sick with the Reflux. I didn't even have a voice the majority of the time and my Dr. had tried doing .5cc un-fills, they weren't helping me to feel any better. I do now. I have energy again, a voice and I'm sleeping. My kids even like me better.

Fleur, if you're having Reflux again, ask for a .25 un-fill. Or try taking Prilosec OTC. The Prilosec OTC didn't work for me, I got a RX for Nexium now. But, my dr started me out trying Prilosec first. Good Luck!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
