POST OP infection? ie. Mexico

Recommended Posts

I think it is a bunch of hogwash. I was banded in Mexico and had not one problem from it. In fact it was the fastest procedure I have had done. I was in surgery less than 45 minutes from the time I got to the hospital.

The only problem I see is the issue of legal responsibility if something goes wrong. Had a thread here were a girl had her esophagus banded instead of her stomach, and no way to recoup her expenses for the later surgery.

Well if it is true sounds like someone used an inexperienced surgeon. I am sure if we looked we could find just as many horror stories from people being banded in the US

And there is still the issue of legal responsibility. Don't start arguing a point I never made. Infections and surgical mistakes happen, my point is if they happen here in US, you have legal recourse where you do not in Mexico. People should be allowed to discuss real issues without board members taking it personal.

I have no idea if the risks are greater or not, as no one here does. But the legal ramifications are not equal.

ya for sure. I heard that one too, but how would they mix up the two? crazy. Im so nervous after talking to the nurses that i feel bad that my mom is getting it with me. What if she goes through that stuff and i dont? It would be my fault because i showed her what it was..

Well i suppose all i could do is pray......

if something like that happened i would just have to pay for it to be removed..

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
