Getting banded on Friday, May 14th. nervousand worried about a few things!

Recommended Posts

Hi all, new to the forum. I found this the other day when I was looking for even more info. lol

My surgery is scheduled for May 14th, two days from now. I'm excited but nervous.

I read somewhere that if your liver hasn't shrunk enough they can't do the surgery. Is that true?? I'm really worried because my approval came through late last week, and they wanted me on the liquid diet for 10 days, but there just weren't enough days for a 10 day diet. Also, I have been reading about others diets, and everyone talks about Jello and broth, but my dr gave me a list of stuff I can have. I've been drinking milk, Water and Atkins shakes. Eating SF Jello, SF Low fat pudding, low fat cream Soups like Tomato, broccoli n cheese (strained), mushroom (strained). I've also been on the pre-op Vitamin they recommended.

My husband says I read WAY too much. But, I like to know the pros and cons of everything before I make a decision. lol

Can someone relieve my fears??? Am I just being silly?

:scared2:

My pre-op diet sounds just like yours! I read too much also and was like omg i wont be able to have surgery!

All preop diets are different, some even get to eat low carbs high Protein (so jealous of those people). Some surgeons dont even require a preop diet.

As long as your following what your dr told you too, I think you will be fine!

Yeah every surgeon has a different preference. Mine doesn't require a pre-op diet at all. Your surgeon knows what he's doing and I'm sure he made the best recommendation for you. I'm scheduled for Thursday so we'll see if there are any issues with the ol' liver :scared2:

Well, I'm glad I'm not the only one that reads too much! hahaha

I've got a whole list of things I've got to do before surgery on Friday. I trim horse feet on the side, so I'm touching all of the horses up before Fri. fun... lol 3 tonight, 4 Wed and 2 Fri. That's everyone for now.

Also, when they did my EDG, he said I have some damage from Acid Reflux, a small hernia as well. Anyone else have that? he did say the Acid Reflux should go away once I have surgery. Thank god for that!!! I eat tums two or three times a day.

I have a small hiatal hernia as well, which my doc says he'll fix during surgery. Tums is my best friend. The good news, from what I've read on this site, is that if you had acid reflux before you probably won't have it after the LB. But then I've also read that people that never had it before now get it. Go figure. Hopefully we're in the former category.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
