my lapband was done on 5/4. I was ok until saturday, I have now had this sharp pain in my port area. It hurts so much! I know am feeling sick...I spoke to a nurse at docs office but they said to call them if I was still experiencing pain on wed. So tomorrow is a full seven days, and my pain is getting worse. Is this normal? Is this the pain I am supposed to feel? If so, I would not have gotten this! I went from taking my deep breaths every hour to feeling as though I can hardly breath.

Hi:

If your pain is getting worse instead of better you should see your doctor. Please call them again and insist that you see someone. Tell them that you're feeling worse when you should be starting to feel better. Do you have a fever? Are you dehydrated? Tell them if you have a fever or if you are getting dehydrated.

Let us know how you're feeling.

Take care.

Sue

Give the doc a call; your pain should be getting better rather than worse.

I hope you feel better fast!

I spoke with the nurse and she said it's normal. Friends seem to think it's the gas, but OMG this hurts. I usually tolerate pain somewhat well. I have gone through the gas ex, any one have sugestions on something better that may help?:scared2:

I call BS on the nurse.

If you are having real pain and it hurts - demand to see the doctor. I didnt - figured I was being a baby. It turns out my pain was an infection that resulted in me having to have to port replaced. Not trying to scare you - but you paid for a service, now get it!

If you took your car into the shop and it made a strange noise on the way home - wouldn't you ask the mechanic to look at it again? Why are we afraid to hold Doctors to the same standard.

I was banded the same day as you and although our tolerance to pain may be different, every day I started to feel better with the gas pain, chest pain and pain in the incision area and today, other than the port area and some discomfort when sitting for long periods of time, I feel ok. (unless I move or twist too quickly and OUCHIES! The port hurts! :))

I would call BS on that nurse like the previous poster said and get in to see the DR. If its in the port area and if you have fever, you may have an infection or something may have happened when you moved.

Be careful and I hope you feel better.

I had a searing ripping pain on sunday night right near my port. I had bent down to give my beagle a swat on the butt for barking at another dog. I called monday and the receptionist said since this was a new and different pain I should be seen. I saw the doc today, he doesn't think I did any damage, but also said that we won't know that the port is in the right place and correct side up until we attempt tp access it at my first fill scheduled for June 1.

I totally agree with everyone, that your pain should not be getting worse. And certainly not to the point that you feel like you can barely breath.

I say call back and insist on an appt....otherwise, show up at the office...

Hope you start to feel better soon.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
