Day 12 post-op and tired of liquids

Recommended Posts

I seriously don't think I can make it another 11 days on this liquid diet. After the first 7 days, I was so hungry I begged my doctor to move me up to Soups and yogurt. That worked for a few days but now, I'm tired of the soups and yogurt also and ready for something more substantial. How did you guys get through the 3 weeks on the liquid diet? Any tips, tricks, ideas? I'm basically eating only 400-500 calories a day. I'm lethargic and starved all the time and my doctor wants me on liquids for 3 weeks before moving to the pureed foods. This seems a little extreme. I welcome any thoughts. Thanks.

I feel your pain! My total liquid diet was only supposed to be 2 weeks and it was tough for me too. I posted the below under the thread "Mashed Potatoes", but maybe it will belp you a little...

I was banded on April 28th and I have been very fortunate not to have many negative effects. The hardest part for me was that I still felt hungry on the liquid diet and I missed my old high calorie friends (a lot). The sugar free popsicles, Jell-o, yogurt, and occasional sugar free pudding helped a little, but I'm not a big sweets fan so the desire for food with a little substance was hard for me.

Eight days after surgery, my doctor gave me the OK to try some mashed potatoes and it hit the spot better than I would have thought or had hoped. I've experimented by adding a little sour cream and sprinkling a little parm cheese for "dinner" and so far I've managed to get away with it. The acid test was a trip to the Phillies game where the aroma of hot dogs and crab fries had the lure of a mermaid, but a bowl of mashed potatoes before the game helped me get through it all.

So, if you're like me, try some instand mashed potatoes (small portions first and ALWAYS eat slowly) and hopefully you'll get the same relief. I know everyone is different, but it's working for me. I lost 6 before surgery, and 15 since my surgery.

Good luck guys. I hope this helps someone out there. Just be careful and eat slowly!

I only had to do 2 weeks and I was desperate to move on to mushies.Try making your own Soups and thicken them with lentils/chickpeas etc then blend them. This adds extra Protein and helps keep you full. My soups were all REALLY thick.

Remember it is only a really short time you have to do this for. it may seem like you will never get through it But you will and then you will be really pleased with what you have achieved.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
