palmtreegirl70 1 Posted May 10, 2010 just found out that my insurance requires a 6 month doctor supervised diet. How do you get thru this?I think 6 months is a little excesive. I, too, had to go through a 6 month waiting period for my insurance to cover the surgery. I was so frustrated to have to wait, but now I am so grateful that I had a waiting period to prepare for surgery. There is a lot of information to learn about the band, and I really was clueless about how it worked and what to expect. The waiting period also allowed me to mentally prepare for my surgery. I used the time to slowly wrap my mind around the ENORMOUS life changes I would endure in order to succeed with the band. Use this time to ready yourself for the surgery. It took me almost 4 months into my waiting period before it finally "clicked" for me. Only then did I get into the zone and start making lifestyle changes that will help me be successful with the band -- exercising, smarter choices, and a commitment to my health. Best of luck to you! It seems like forever right now. But trust me when i tell you that it flies by! With all of the tests and different specialist you have to see it will take a couple months just for that. So hang on, start practicing and scour these forums.
AnneGG 0 Posted May 10, 2010 I echo what palmtreegirl says- it's not a long time at all, and it's a good time to practice being banded, just getting used to the routine without the PBing and the getting stuck, etc. I'm finally getting banded in 2 weeks after working at it for 8 months, and I finally feel ready to take on the changes. Another way of looking at it is there's less to lose on the other end!
CarolWA 0 Posted May 10, 2010 I had to do a year of supervised. Don't you feel better now? lol
time for mom 0 Posted May 10, 2010 I had my choice between 6 months of diet or 3 months of diet and exercise -- I chose the 3 month route even though I despise exercise and guess what I've learned to love the gym. The diet don't dread it too much -- It will be baby steps, learning Portion Control, what to eat, how important chewing and going slow will be post banding. It's basically just getting you ready for things that will change post band.
