smcgill721 0 Posted May 10, 2010 So I've been thinking all week about this LAP-BAND® thing. I've really psyched myself out! I'm going to the initial information session on Wednesday, May 12. I'm required to go to this information session before the surgeon will have a consult with me. Once I have my consult, I can start workng on the stuff I need to do to get my approval. It's a three month multi-disiplinary process I have to go through before the surgery. I'm so READY to get this process started! I'm 115 pounds over weight for a normal BMI. My husband doesn't want me to loose that much. I'm just ready to get started and see this through... I guess the journey starts here. My initial thoughts...I hope this show lasts!
time for mom 0 Posted May 10, 2010 Hi SMCGill, I just finished my 3 month prerequisites per my insurance. The 3 months went my fairly quickly. The first month will seem like an appointment marathon as you get all your testing done. Then it was just routine dietician visits for me(an exercise). Now I am awaiting the insurance finally approval for my surgery and it seems like an eternity. Hope to have a surgery date soon.
smcgill721 0 Posted May 10, 2010 Good Luck to you!! I wonder how long it will take to get the approval. Did you have to send in some type of packet from all your different visits? Also, do you start the whole pre-op diet after you get approved and a date scheduled?
time for mom 0 Posted May 10, 2010 Well, My surgeon has a whole team in their office - dietician, nurse practioner, psych nurse, etc. so their is a patient liasson who keeps track of everything you need to do and then she submits it to the insurance. They told me it would be 2 to 3 weeks before we heard anything. Two weeks have passed now and I am on week three and hoping that everything is going to go through. The one thing that might be my problem area is that for my exercise plan I was supposed to see a trainer - Well I live in a small town and their was not a trainer at the closest gym to me so I wrote my own exercise plan. Hoping the insurance doesn't decline me because of that. I'm thinking that if you have to attend a seminar prior to meeting your surgeon -= You will probably be in a similar plan as I was and you will have all the same support people available to you in the office.
