I've never heard of anyone having a flying restriction after surgery. You'll likely still be in mushy stage so just remember how important it is to follow your surgeon's post-op rules. It's not a "diet", it's letting your body heal.

Enjoy your vacation!

it may be up to your surgeon as well. My doctor did not want me to fly within 2 weeks after my surgery or any fills. I don't know if that was because of air pressure reasons or if he wanted me close by in case I had any problems. 3 weeks post surgery I don't think I wanted to get on a plane as I was still trying to adjust with my mushy food phase. I'm with DodgerFan on this one, follow your dr's post-op rules. Do not cheat during this time as your body needs time to heal and adjust to this "foreign" band. Side note: I definitely was not drinking alcohol or anything for the first month. Good luck with your surgery and with your holiday. Let us know how it all turns out.

I'll be going on vacation 5 weeks after banding, and will still be on mushies for the first five days. I figure I'll be taking Protein powder and being creative.

I'm not sure I would have wanted to do it any sooner; even this feels sooner than I would have liked.

I felt well enough at 3 weeks to go on a trip (felt back to normal about a week out.) As the others have said, the biggest problem (unless you feel badly) is that you likely won't be on solid food yet. If you're gonna be eating at restaurants mostly, it may be hard to find food that you can eat.

I will have to see how it works in my case, too. I have an overnight event 3 weeks after surgery (driving 200 miles) and then a week holiday approximately one month after surgery.

I didn't want to put off my surgery because of these things. Would not matter anyway. There is almost no time I could have had the surgery where I would not have been traveling at least within a month. Life does not stop.

But, it will make me extra vigilant in the early healing stages not to mess anything up for myself later! I will remind myself to slow down and ask for help when I need it.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
