I'm 27 years old and I live alone and my family lives about 2 hours away. My cousin is coming to stay with me during and a few days after the surgery. My family would like her to bring me home after that for a week or so. Is traveling for 2 hours a bad idea? How long after surgery do I need to see a doctor?

Well, I don't know because I've never had surgery, but my hospital is over an hour away so I will be traveling half that distance the day of my surgery.

I don't think 2 hours is bad, and I think it will be good for you to have people taking care of you for a few days post op.

Hi Jamie,

I had surgery 8:30 Wednesday and flew home 1.5 hour flight on Thursday at 11:30. It wasn't too bad at all. Just had to take Gravol ahead in case of any turbulence. Hope this helps.

You should be fine. Bring along a small pillow to help protect your tummy from the seat belt - the area is swollen inside and sore, and the belt applies pressure in a sensitive spot.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
