This has just been my experience, and by no means is it supposed ot represent the norm. My first fill HURT! The Dr had a hard time finding the port, and had to stick me with a needle twice. I ended up with a huge bruise (bigger than the size og a half-dollar). It ended up being too tight and I had to go back three days later for an unfill, and he had to put the needle back through the bruise. That hurt so bad I actually screamed.

I just got refilled this past week, and honestly, it didn't hurt nearly as bad as the first (two) time.

I have had two fills thus far and both were quick and painless. The doctor gives you a local anesthetic and you really don't feel a thing. I am no fan of needles so I usually look up at the ceiling while they are doing it and that works for me.

I think it depends on all of the circumstances. I only had one that was painful because the port kept eluding the doc  - but the other 4 or 5 were just a poke that lasts a moment. (no anesthetic for any of them)

I had my first fill Friday June 11, for my birthday! I was so nervous my bp was up to 170s, all for nothing. It didnt hurt at all(numbing meds) and only lasted about 20 seconds At the most. Of course its not nearly enough(3cc), need another but not until Sept 20!

Did you hear the "pop" as they pulled the needle out? Mine did it both time and I think that is my favorite part.

I was too nervous to hear anything, although I did hear the Fluid going in which sounded weird. I was so scared when they pulled the 3'' needle out(it looked that long)but it was a breeze.

My first fill the Doc had problems finding my port as well. The poking around with her finger was FAR more painful than the insertion. I get no pain med or numbing and consider it less painful than a flu shot.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
