a question I could ONLY ask here...

Which direction do you wipe after peeing? I know that you're "supposed to " wipe from front to back, but when I was at my highest weight, honestly, it was a hard enough reach just to wipe my booty--no way could I reach behind and under to wipe from front to back after peeing. After losing a lot of weight, everything shrinks (including the distance between the two places?). Out of habit, I still wipe from back to front. I'm asking this totally weird question because lately I've been having a string of yeast infections--which I almost never have--and I'm beginning to wonder if my wiping habits are to blame. I know there are a lot of possible causes for yeast infections, and if I get one more, I won't treat it over-the-counter but will go to the doctor's. PS. This gives me the skeevies just writing this, but if not here, then where?

I am thinking that yes you are able to reach further than before and are pulling germs forward. OK, your right this is uncomfortable, but I go from between my legs in front to back not all the way around and then front to back.:)

I've found I don't have to wipe anymore. I just pat pat pat after peeing. As for my bottom, I can reach there now, and I reach back there and wipe upwards towards the small of my back. You also risk getting bladder and kidney infections when you wipe from back to front.

Are you eating yogurt and still getting yeast infections?

Are you sure they are yeast infections?

I work in the health field, and yes it does sound like you are "dragging" contaminants in the wrong direction. Having said that, with my size ,I can't wipe the right way either. I have to reach from the front if I have a BM and I also have a tendancy towards yeast infections.

SO, I eat lots of yogurt, wipe a lot so not to, um, smear , and use wet towelettes like what you get at the doctor's office when you give a urine sample. AND my DH installed a bidet (coochie carwash I call it) at home, and use that exclusively at home.

When I loose the weight I'll have to retrain my self to reach behind! Oh gee, the things I look forward to! LOL

Hope that helps.

i work in the health field too, in microbiology. the majority of urinary tract infections that i see are from a bacteria that is a normal stool flora. it's almost always from wiping back to front. yeast is also considered normal in stool. NEVER wipe back to front. being overweight it's harder but try to reach around and under. i actually had a callous on my wrist from putting weight on my hand while i wiped. since i've lost some, it's now going away. still can't quite reach it in the "normal" way but i'm getting closer!

:bolt:

Why would you have to reach from behind to wipe front to back? When I wipe I start with my hand in the front, start at the top and wipe down to the vag and then I wipe my rear seperately.

When I was little I wiped incorrectly. Not really back to front but from middle to top and then my butt seperately and I was constantly getting urinary tract infections and then I was taught the correct way to wipe.

This is a very interesting and informative thread. I have to say that I laughed out loud when I read the coochie carwash line. I'll have to start using that instead of saying bidet.

I'm still laughing............:cursing:

amy, maybe this is tmi but i couldn't reach around the front because most of my weight is in my belly. so i lean forward and get to it that way from the back. hopefully when i lose the belly, i can do it the "normal" way. it works for me though and haven't had a uti in more years than i can remember.

I reach in from the front and wipe front to the back.

Hubby has to wiggle around and reach from the back, but he has other things to contend with.

And I want a carwash now.......

Personally I've never, ever, been flexible enough to do that reach-behind business. If you can wipe from back to front, you can do it the opposite way. When feces (and yeah, it's there even though you may be squeaky clean) gets into your vaginal area, a couple of things can happen:

1) Most important: e.coli is in your intestinal tract whether you like it or not, it's a natural bacteria, and can be released when you poop. So if you wipe from back to front, or even have a really bad bout of flatulence that escapes the other way, e.coli can make it's way into your urinary tract. UTI's are people variant, some people feel em immediately, and some people don't exhibit symptoms until they're in the ER complaining about a stabbing pain in their side.

2) Any kind of excrement can make it's way in your vagina and cause yeast infections. Sometimes, ladies, yogurt and honey and tea tree oil just doesn't work. DO NOT DOUCHE when you have a yeast infection, either, because that can make it worse.

In summation: to the front to back, now, before you get really sick.

source: trial and error growing up and living in a medical family.

Thanks for asking/answering a question that I would not have thought to ask, but needed to know. Plus, I the coochie car wash comment made me lol. :D

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
