Looking for May 17th Surgery Buddy!

Recommended Posts

Hi all. My surgery date is right around the corner (May 17). I am looking for someone having surgery around the same time and who has similar goals to buddy with to share in this journey. I begin my liquid diet on Monday the 10th. I went to the grocery store to stock up on things that I can have on my pre-op diet last night, and I think the reality finally hit me. It was very emotional and overwhelming to me. This is it.

Private message me if you are interested!

I was so happy to see your post!! I am scheduled for surgery on May 17th too!! I am scared and nervous too! This liquid diet is very difficult for me. The shakes are nasty, and the caffeine withdraw is insane (huge headaches, body aches, etc.)!! Honestly, I have cheated a little since starting my diet on the the 3rd. But, I keep imaging my life after surgery and I feel excited. I try to not cheat, but if I do I eat something really healthy. I just spoke with the hospital staff and there are some billing issues:confused:. But hopefully, I can work something out to still have the surgery on Monday the 17th. Think about the end result-how will you look/feel 12 months from now. Stay strong!!!!:scared2:

Im so happy i am allowed caffeine. I was told to stay away from it if it makes me hungry. Ive been drinking tea and today I got a skinny vanilla latte from starbucks!

But i do hope you get to have surgery on the 17th!!! Its my date too :-)

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
