Great idea for horrible gas pain!

Recommended Posts

I am just two days out of surgery and my incisions barely hurt at all, but the gas pain/pressure has been killing me. I have been walking and taking Gas-X but it was only getting worse! I was about to call the doctor when I found on old post that had a great tip...if one gas medicine is not working for you, try another or two or three! Sounds very simple, but I did not think of it. This person said that Gas-X had not helped her and she called her doc and he said to try something different. She tried the Walgreens brand of Maylox. Off to Walgreens we went, I ended up with their brand of Mylanta (maximum strength) and it is really helping.

I'm glad you found something that worked! That gas pain sucked!

Definitely... In the hospital they gave me Maylox and mylanta but they hardly helped... so I told them they weren't working. They gave me chewable gas tablets called Simethicone... They really worked well. I think they're like Gas-X. So everybody is different. Thank goodness they have so many options. I'm glad you found some relief... the gas part was the worst part of recovery.:)

Hope a different medicine helps. My gas pain ended up coming back with a vengeance last night and even the new medicine was not helping. I looked through some more old threads and found some advice that did work. Sounds unconventional, but the advice was given by an E.R. doc, here goes...get down on all fours, and then lower your head and chest until they are touching the floor, with your bottom up in the air. This is suppose to get the trapped gas moving. It did help me to "expel" some of that gas, and before morning I was moving even more :o

Ohhh - just thinking about trying to get on all 4s and do that move, makes me cringe!!! Yowtch!!!!!! :) I'm doing simethicone (gas x), but still feeling the pain. But I am burping and *tooting* a fair bit more today. Let's hope it's on it's way OUT!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
