I'm SOOO putting the cart before the horse as I haven't even been approved for surgery YET, but for those banders...

Is there anyone who stopped weighing themselves right after the surgery??

I'm thinking about ditching my scale and just relying on the office visits to know the digits. I'm thinking about going strictly by the way I look and the way my clothes fit. Am I crazy?!?!?! :)

I'm one of those people that when on a diet, I will weigh myself several times a day like a maniac!! Then when I'm not dieting, I don't go near the scale for fear of it.

I would love to hear your thoughts!! TIA!

I weigh myself, but I really don't count it. In my ticker, I use the weight that I get at my doctor's office.

P.S. What does trinity mean in your signature? I secretly love Twilight. :) lol

If you don't have the discipline to pick a day/time once a week to weigh yourself (I certainly don't), then maybe it's not a bad idea to toss your home scale. I weighed myself several times a day right after surgery even though I know weight fluctuates throughout the day. Almost 10 months out now and I'm down to a few times a week. I like knowing my number, but it is a bit maddening and sometimes I think I should toss my homescale and just use one where I work to weigh once a week. Best of luck! :)

I learned the once a week thing at weight watchers many years ago. It has always worked for me much better. I can do that obsession thing with weighing and I hate myself when I do that. I put them away in the cupboard in the bathroom so they are "out of sight out of mind"!!! I think everyone just has to figure out what works for them... Hugs!!!!

I weigh once or twice a week. For me, the band has helped me give up my obsession with the scale. When I was on WW I would weigh myself several times a day, especially on weigh-in day. Now with the band I'm not worrying all the time about what my weight is going to be or how I've done this week.

I weigh and record my weight once a week. IF I'm up for some reason (has only happened a few times) I know it is most likely due to eating higher sodium foods - my band simply doesn't allow me to eat enough to gain consistently like I used to - as long as I'm eating good foods.

At times when my weight has stalled a bit I also let my clothes tell me how I'm doing, even when the scale doesn't move for a bit my clothes fit differently, so I use that as an indicator of my progress as well.

I think the scale is a useful tool.

Just as you learn new eating habits, you can learn new weighing habits.

I don't think it's necessary to limit yourself to once-weekly weighing. I weigh daily. Just once, first thing in the morning. Doing this allows me to see the little fluctuations that occur for a variety of reasons---and learn to put them into perspective (so that a little upward blip does not faze me).

The times I've gone without weighing have been times when I've gained---and I don't want to go that route again. So, I weigh once daily; it keeps me on the right path. There's no obsession attached to it any longer--it's purely informational and motivational.

I weigh daily as well, with the knowledge that the weight loss journey is filled with starts and stops. If I have a stop for too long, or see an increasing trend, I take a hard look at 1) what I'm eating, 2) what I'm drinking, and 3) how I'm exercising, to see if anything needs to be modified. What I try NOT to do is get inappropriately anxious about the number on the scale. I let myself get that way during the period between my surgery and my first fill, and the surgeon's office ended up having my husband confiscate my scale for awhile, so I could focus on something else.

Betsy is quite right- the scale, like the Band, is a tool...it shouldn't become the driver of your life.

I weigh myself once a week. I have been really good about that since surgery. Well- I cheated twice (in almost 6 months). The daily flucuations would drive me crazy. However, I think different things work for different people.

Thanks everyone for the advice! I'm still waiting to be approved so I have a little while to see how I'm going to handle the scale issue. Like some of you mentioned, while I was on WW is when the madness really started with the scale. Everytime I used the facilities I ended up weighing and obsessing. I'll see what happens and maybe just hide the scale, or just make it less accessible! Thanks again!!

Oh, and Manda- My real name is Trinity and my friend just made that name siggy for me since I LOVE Twilight too! :)

I weigh myself twice a week, on Tuesdays and Fridays. Tuesdays is just to get a "feel" for how I'm doing, If I need to decrease food/increase exercise. Friday is my "official" weigh in, which I record.

I weigh myself in the morning, everyday. I, too, have trouble staying away from the scale but feel it is valuable to keep me in check. Twilight lover here too!!!

I have to agree with Betsy and Chrisdirects--I weigh daily, but I do not flip over every fluctuation. It helps me to monitor what I eat--when I eat too much sodium and not enough Water, I gain, so weighing helps me to cut out somethings and workout!!!

      Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

      Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

        Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
