Your Top Five Mushies??

Recommended Posts

I finally get to start mushies.......today! (Drooling!) My doctor gave me a rather abbreviated list of approved foods:

Refried Beans

Scrambled eggs

Mashed potatoes

Applesauce

Yogurt

Cottage cheese

Cream of Wheat/ oatmeal

pudding

I'm wondering what other wonderful morsels you all have found to add to the above list that made this stage more enjoyable. I'm particularly interested in forms of Protein.

I'm so excited..........I'm actually going to use a FORK!!!! LOL.

Thanks!

B

Refried Beans w/ sour cream/cheese

Mashed potatoes/sour cream/cheese

Potato soup/ w guess what/cheese

LF fudgesicles

Thin spaghetti/sauce/cheese

You know what, I wasn't eating any vegetables. The first time I tried to eat broccoli I got stuck. I have the nerve to get stuck off of eggs sometimes. I can eat almost anything after a cup of hot tea and just a tiny bit at a time. It is more about quality then quantity.

I'm sorry - I don't have anything to add to the list. I practically lived on refried Beans. I mixed in cheese and salsa. Yummy. I also tried lots of different Soups. I was told that I could puree anything I wanted with a little broth in the blender for mushies, but it never seemed worth the effort.

Congrats on using a fork again! It's the little things... :D

Cottage cheese with finely diced and peeled Tomato with 1/2 oz minced black olives

Oatmeal(not instant) with Brown sugar splenda with tablespoon of low carb Peanut Butter and 1/4 well mashed banana

No fat Refried Beans with 1 oz of low fat shredded cheese and 1 oz oz of fat free sour cream

Canned Great Northerns seasoned, cooked and mashed, then add a little mashed potatoes, stir and enjoy.

1 pouch of tuna, with 1 tablespoon of low fat mayo, seasoned with celery seeds, onion powder, salt and pepper. I also put an 1/2 oz of finely chopped green olives and 1 oz of pickle relish in mine.

1) like the other folks on this thread....refried Beans heated with a splash of enchilada sauce, some cheese and sour cream

2) tuna blended down in my kitchen chopper with mayo. Sometimes I throw some cheese in there and blend in.

3) cooked a chicken breast, cut it up, put in kitchen chopper with season salt and green onion. I really blended the crud out of that tho....chicken can be hard to get down but made into almost a paste and it is YUMMY. Sometimes I also throw some cheese in with the chicken. A hunk of swiss was terriffic in this blend.

4) cottage cheese (but go slow and chew because I've gotten into trouble by not chewing those little curds)

5) hot and sour Soup not strained. Eat the chunks of tofu slooowly.

Refried Beans w/ sour cream

Refried Beans w/ sour cream

Refried beans w/ sour cream

and chili

I'd go to Taco Bell, order the refried beans and sour cream, then a regular taco, then I'd empty the contents of the taco into the refried beans, stir and yummm.

Mashed sweet potato with splenda and cinnamon its like a holiday treat.

I know this sounds werid but it tasted really good.. steamed broccli or cailflower and mashed up to a mashed potato texture with melted chesse or just butter.

People who have undergone gastric bypass are usually started out on scrambled eggs because of the Protein. For me I would try watered down oatmean as I love it and apple sauce. You've come to the exciting part of your diet. So happy for you.

Add me to the list of refried-beans devotees. I also loved hummus, tzatziki, salmon mousse, fish pates, and all the other fancy spreads and dips that are too expensive to buy on a regular basis. But when I was living on mushies they brought much joy to my life! :)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
