hello all! today is day two of my 2 week pre-op diet...and i really really want to bake something...and i'm already bored with my two flavors of Protein shakes (vanilla and strawberry) i am using Bariatric Advantage from the doctor...

anyway...i wanted to share my shake recipe with all of you on the pre op...i didnt even think about what i was drinking...

RECIPE:

I found caffeine free chai tea bags at the grocery (0 calories, 0 sugar) i brewed a very strong cup of chai tea and cooled it with eight ice cubes. I then put 2 scoop of my vanilla Protein Shake powder and two scoops of the unflavored Protein. (makes a double batch, because of all the ice cubes...so i doubled up on the protein...)

I then blended it all together in a blender with about a tsp of cinnamon. This made two 8 oz servings of the protein shake...and so i put the other cup in the freezer for later.

I served with a dash of cinnamon on top...

i tell you, tastes just like its from starbucks! (love chai tea lattes!)

i will share some more of my shake recipes...this is actually fun! all day at work i was trying to figure out what kind of shake i was going to make when i got home!

If anyone else has some yummy recipes lets share!

Sounds good! And it really packs a Protein wallop, doesn't it?

Bariatric Eating has a line of coffee/tea drinks called BElieve. When you're able to add caffeine back in, postoperatively, they're worth a try if you like the bottled Starbucks drinks. You can order them at bariatriceating.com.

That sounds amazing!! My first wave of Protein Drinks just arrived yesterday (thank you Amazon Prime!) but I'm not loving them. I enjoy Protein Shakes in general, but low carb/no sugar ones are blah! Fake sugar makes me gag, but I guess I gotta get used to it again. Hopefully it's an acquired taste! So anything I can do to spice it up (chai tea hello!) sounds good to me! Thanks for sharing! :)

Amazon Prime is both the best and worst thing to ever happen to me. No one should have the power of free two-day shipping!

Do you work in an office? Did you know you can put four other people on your account?? I have four friends in on it with me, we each pay just $20/year! I'd say Amazon is getting screwed, but really I think they're laughing all the way to the bank!

(Sorry...didn't mean to hijack this thread, bandster foul!)

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
