After a lot of worrying about the nutritionist appointment

Recommended Posts

I went through my surgeons check list with friggin record speed, food shrink, sleep study, lost 16 lbs, letter from primary doc, and quit smoking all in under two weeks. At this point I was worried because the nutritionist was the last person I needed to see, and last item on the list to complete before the surgeon would see me for a follow up to get the surgery scheduled... SO I waited, each day wondering, OMG, this Nutritionist lady could potentially hold up my progress for months! By the time today rolled around I had convinced myself that the nutritionist must be an evil woman that hates fat kids, and will make go to months of appointments before giving me the ok for the band surgery. I was walking in to her office going over the arguments in my head, I was prepared to argue any point that she could have made. Turns out, nothing to worry about at all, super nice lady, had a great little one on one talk, next thing I know she says, you're all good to go! HELL YEAH!! Called my surgeon as I was walking though the nutritionist lobby, and set my follow up for may 27th! I really hope to be banded by end of June, maybe mid July.

WOW congratulations on your success in many way. And for the start of your new life.

I love the nutritional visits. And the fact that I had to have 6 nutritional visits before my surgery was awesome. Of course I thought the day of surgery would never get here but now that I look back I am so glad that I had those nutrional visits. I have learned so much. And I see my nutritionist every time I go for a fill also. I can also email or call her anytime I have a question. The nutrionist as well as your doctor are both there to help you. Don't ever be afraid to talk to either of them.

Good luck on your journey.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
