I was banded on 4/28/10 (also a hernia repair at the same time).

Since I've been home (4/29/10) there are a few things I've noticed.

1. I'm a little lightheaded most of the day. Is this lack of hydration maybe?

2. I have the worst breath ever! It's constant, metallic tasting. Brushing my teeth and mouthwash only helps for maybe an hour. I believe this is part of Ketosis. Has anyone else gone through this? Anyone have any advice on things that will help it go away?

3. What are some of the nutrition products or recipes that people have found that work great for the first two to three weeks? I've tried liquid egg whites the other day and it went well. But once I get to being able to eat meat and vegies, what are some combos any of you seem to think work the best.

Thanks! :bored:

My husband was banded about 3-4 weeks ago. He also suffered from the bad breath, we didnt notice that when I was banded, but when he started moving onto things other than Protein it helped - vegetable juices, Soup etc. He also moved quite quickly to mashed potatoes, fine minced meat, dahl and very thin curries - this helped fill him up and eased the bad breath.

For both of us - chicken breast can be difficult unless very small and in some sort of sauce. I also find meats cooked in caseroles, curries etc are easier to eat. I find that many meats are a bit stringy for me so unless they are cooked down well, I can get stuck. I like all veggies, cooked preferably and just chewed well :-)

Good lcuk

Carbohydrate is the only source of fuel your brain can utilize.

So if you're going into ketosis- which is likely if you're eating only protein-- getting some carbs in may help with both the lightheadedness and the bad breath.

If you're on liquids still- try a Protein Shake that DOES have some carbs- OR- try some cream vegetable Soups (like Tomato, potato, mushroom).

But I think dehydration could also cause lightheadedness-- are you drinking enough?

ETA: You'll know you're dehydrated if your urine is dark in color-- if it's pale yellow or lighter, then you're well hydrated and that isn't the issue.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
