Good luck! I am on day 4. So far, so good - the days are easier than the nights. I'm allowed a few "free" foods (sugar free popsicles, some veggies, broth) and a *very* small low-carb dinner, but I still get pretty darn hungry after 7pm until I go to sleep.

I'm noticing a bit of fatigue, but that's to be expected I guess with the reduction in calories. And I suppose I may be a tiny bit irritable at work....

But overall, I'm feeling like this is doable, and that staying as focused and positive as I can helps with the hunger. And when I need to psyche myself up, I visit this board and see how many others are up to this challenge - truly inspiring.

We CAN do this, and we will!

Awesome! Im also on day 4 and having my surgery on the 17th. The first day was the hardest for me. After that it just seems normal to me. I guess I don't obsess over food as much as I thought I did. I am a little bit more tired then usually but I hope that goes away soon.. I have too much going on to be tired! haha.

Cant wait to get banded and start this new life!

Day 5 report:

Ok, the nights are killing me. I am not supposed to have anything after 7pm except broth or sugar-free popsicles. And it's hard, I'm not gonna lie. Not even so much physically, but what it does point out to me (he said, with the infinite wisdom gained from five whole days of calorie restriction;-) is the emotional side and the habitual side.

I.e., I feel a bit raw emotionally at night and also like I maybe don't know exactly what to do with myself in the evenings without my trusty snack(s). TV just isn't the same without my hand in a bag of chips, you know? It's weird.

I should say that I've coped by doing two things: (1) calling friends and talking, and (2) turning off the tv and reading. Hopefully, I'm going to add a nighttime walk to those two, because I feel like I need to flee the scene and get out of my head for a while. Or at least away from my couch. There's an old saying that if you don't want to get a haircut, don't hangout in a barbershop. I'm sure I mangled that, but you get the idea.

So that's how I'm feeling. I am happy I made it through these last couple nights, because the mornings feel so good! But it's a reminder that I need to change things up and spend less time on the couch, and certainly less time thinking about food. Yet another reminder that this is a total lifestyle change, not just a diet....

Hope everyone's doing well!

Today is Day 3 of Opti-fast. I must say I have been doing good but this morning I started cramping a lot :o not sure if it's a side effect or what it could be but other than that I am trying to stay strong and block out the pain. I hope you all are well and stay on track trust me it's hard but in the end it will be so worth it! We can do this!!!! :)

Day 10:

Hanging in there. On a business trip so it's harder than normal with the food. However I did bring gym clothes and have been working out at the hotel gyms, which helps. Wondering if that's making me hungrier, hmmm....

Anyway, in exactly one week I'll be banded. In fact at this point I'll be just coming out of surgery. That's my motivation right there. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't hungry right now, but I'm going to drink a bunch of Water, have a shake in an hour, and a small bit of salad/protein for dinner. Must. Stay. On. Plan!

Keep posting, and good luck everyone!

Good on you! I have 6 more days too, not including today. I have lost 10lbs and when my husband cooks I can smell it in my bedroom and it is killing me. Can't wait to start something more solid!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
