campbell's Soup, creamy type, sometimes low fat chicken though I put some half and half cream in (about 3 tbsps) which makes it super yummy and that keeps me full for about 3 - 4 hours. I also make other creamy Soups but from packaged powder mixes - they have nice Polish ones here in Toronto such as cauliflower or mushroom - very satisfying and very filling!

For me, a combination of good quality Protein, some fat and complex carbohydrates do the trick.

Simple carbs (like white bread, white rice or sugary things) empty quickly from the stomach, cause an insulin surge and make you hungry quickly.

Protein, fat and Fiber (from complex carbs- veggies, whole grains like brown rice, or oatmeal) delay stomach emptying, and they don't cause an insulin surge, and so you stay full longer.

ETA: and by fat I mean some olive oil- maybe I'll stir fry my veggies in a tsp, but the fat from meat also counts- so if it's a super lean meat I may add olive oil, but if it's a fattier cut, I won't.

I scrambled egg works well for me for Breakfast. If I eat a slice of deli turkey and 1 slice of cheese, that holds me for quite awhile too.

For me, a serve of a good wholegrain with a meal makes that difference. Even half a piece of wholegrain toast with Soup will stick for hours. I dont like sandwiches and never have, but they're the ultimate filler. The meal also needs to contain Protein. Hot also makes a difference for me.

For example somethink like about 3/4 of a cup of a Heinz Chunky soup (bits of meat and vegies in it) and half a slice of wholegrain toast would do me easily five or six hours until dinner.

Something like tuna on whole grain crackers and an apple would fill me jsut as much at the time, but head hunger, if not actual physical hunger would creep in. Its the hot/meat/wholegrain thing that does it for me.

I guess I'm echoing what Jen said above. I rarely have any trouble after dinner, becuase most dinners are this combination. But lunch I have to think more about.

Breakfast doesnt make a lot of difference for me, i can go without easily, I can eat just a bit easily or I can fit a hearty one in, any way anyhow, I dont get hungry till lunch.< /p>

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
