Feeling depressed over this whole Tricare thing

Recommended Posts

Simply put: I want to be approved.

I read their policy and I may not qualify, then I have people AT TriWest over the phone tell me that, you can get the lap-band on BMI too. I asked her how does she know, b/c it's not written in their policy and she said, "because I've been trained on it."

I'm feeling pretty stressed... I've been trying to lose weight for 7 years only to gain it back and more. It seems like I'm putting to much hope into this. My stomach is in knots.

I go to a seminar tonight and I see my primary doctor on the 11th. I just wanted to vent for a minute.

Oh.... I'm 5'0" 215 pounds.... No high blood pressure, but maybe pre-hypertension.

Don't stress about it. Just talk to your surgeon and let them deal with it.

Good news for you!

I am 5' also and pre op I weighed 216 with a BMI just under 40 (my surgeon upped my weight to 220 to hit over 40 )

I am on Tricare south and I have been banded.

Edit:

You probably need a co-morbidity.... I had a diagnosis of type 2 diabetes 6 years ago... that was mine

Hi! I don't know if you've had any news about Tricare since your original post but I thought I'd share my experience. I also have Tricare and had no problems being approved for the surgery. My BMI is 40 and I have no comorbidities. I was approved within 2 weeks last December by Tricare. I didn't go through with the surgery though as I did not like my doctor whatsoever. *I see you're in San Diego. So am I. If you need advice about doctors, I'm happy to help.* Now I've found another doctor and once again Tricare approved the surgery. Now I'm just waiting for a date.

I understand that Tricare just changed their standards and go by BMI. Might want to check into it if you can.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
